I have no issues taking him at 5. I'm talking about the people here who are saying it is an unforgivable sin to pass on him if he's there at 5. If we take him at 5, I'll be happy and hopeful. If we pass on him and take someone else, I'll be happy and hopeful too, understanding that it isn't a simple situation. There's a lot to consider and a lot of information we don't have access to.

And frankly, people are unfairly shitting on a guy like Leonard, who we DO have access to watch, plenty of tape, who has been impressive and by all accounts will end up being a very solid and useful player.

The more I do my homework on Leonard, the more I'm happy if he's the pick (outside the remote chance Carlsson is available).

You don't always need the best point-producer. You need the best player for your team. It's not like he's a third-line talent like some are making him out to be. People have this shit tendency to think only in "either-or" fashion. He's got talent and skill. The grit, competitiveness, physicality, and two-way game just completes the picture.

Button just doesn't seem that high on Reinbacher for some reason but he at least moved him up 4 spots from 24th on his May 15th list to 20th on today's list. He previously listed Reinbacher's NHL comparable as Adam Larsson. His top 19 didn't change from his last list on May 15th until now.

We do know..... His contract end in 2026. We don't know if he will break his contract or not. I'm ready to wait 3 years for a elite player. Would be happy, if he can break it and come in 2 years. If habs could buy out his last year, it will be great.

If his contract has only for one year. He would have gone second overall.

The problem is also the rumors of him re-signing for 2 more years.

Michkov is the only player who has been compared to Bedard in this draft, he is the only one that can have a similar career.

Highlight videos, sure. Not many people on this board have access to and watch full KHL games of HK Sochi.

I put up full game vids from his VHL games (since the KHL geo blocks any of my vids) but the copyright police got me so I stopped. I went in order from his first game of the season and had every game or 4 of the first 5 or whatever it was.

Any talk about trading down if Habs don't take Michkov is the best indicator that they wouldn't be taking the BPA and would lower the pick to grab whatever is left of the next tier of players. More of the same mantra of more quantity than quality.

Why not just take the BPA who is head and shoulders better and way more skilled than than anyone in the next tier? Just makes no sense to me for a franchise desperate for elite level skill.

Who knows what the Habs are being offered, if say the Caps got desperate and offered a couple 1st picks, then you have to listen and think long and hard about what you want to. So who knows what Hughes is up to at this point.

Zach Benson gives me Joe Sakic vibes. People shitting on his size and skating. Being scared of size for someone as talented is almost always a mistake. And I find his skating to be great in terms of mobility/agility/edgework. It's a gamble alright, but I prefer that bet than gambling on Will Smith or taking a safe pick like Reinbacher.

Hughes saw him play two years ago so all he probably knows his character and his skill so he just needs an update on the progress and we know MM had a great year on the stats sheet anyway…

Hughes said he wants the best players down the road. That is definitely Michkov once Bedard and Fantili are gone.

Imagine MSL coaching MM in 3 years. If they think they can get Anderson to progress, they for sure will think they will be able to teach MM what he needs to become that superstar.

But we are picking #5 not 4.

Go big or go home.
I would rather pick Michkov and have him not come than pick again the middle 6 player whos has no savour.

They even Drafted Mailloux where he said he did not want to be drafted. I don't know why Michkov case is more problematic

Hughes saw him play two years ago so all he probably knows his character and his skill so he just needs an update on the progress and we know MM had a great year on the stats sheet anyway…

Hughes said he wants the best players down the road. That is definitely Michkov once Bedard and Fantili are gone.

Imagine MSL coaching MM in 3 years. If they think they can get Anderson to progress, they for sure will think they will be able to teach MM what he needs to become that superstar.

I have a hard time seeing us passing on MM. still think it will be him or Smith. Either way we’re getting a great prospect.
