Well then we lost the gamble. I am willing to take that gamble. And what if Michkov arrive in 2032 ?
That really is the only debate here. Do we gamble on Michkov coming over? That is the question HuGo is likely deciding as well.

That won't happen..What if he buys out the last year of his deal and coming over in 2 years? Anyone can play the "What If" game.
And with Nick Bobrov in the staff, they have better intern then most of the teams.Well then we lost the gamble. I am willing to take that gamble.

I agree. I generally subscribe to the trust the experts mantra as well. I would be so choked though, if we pass and he comes to say Washington in 2 years and takes the reins from OV.That won't happen..
And with Nick Bobrov in the staff, they have better intern then most of the teams.
So if we pass on him, there is probably a good reason that nobody here can't know
I mean if almost every team in the top 10 are ready to pass him even with how much talented he is and how many NHL are ready to do anything to find talent... It's concerning for sureI agree. I generally subscribe to the trust the experts mantra as well. I would be so choked though, if we pass and he comes to say Washington in 2 years and takes the reins from OV.
Risk/reward needs to be calculated and I trust Hugo to do that.
Based on what little we know so far....I value the reward far greater than the risk at this point.
Of course you are…. you’re not responsible for significant lost revenue…. $ that are required to incubate & grow side businessesWell then we lost the gamble. I am willing to take that gamble.

might be a reason why craig button has michkov at 4 and leonard at 12...The funniest, it’s that those who are dramatic about Habs not taking Michkov and saying Leonard is only a 50 pts player are those who didn’t watch a single game of any prospect
Craig Button have ASP at 5 and Tom Willander at 8…might be a reason why craig button has michkov at 4 and leonard at 12...
If we pass on Michkov a superstar potential player for a REACH I will lose it. Just draft BPA and stop with this Reinbacher and Leonard nonsense. Just take one of the top 5 and move on.
Trained and experienced professional scouts were also excited about Jankowski and said he'd be the best player from the draft in 10 years.Yeah, in this one I'll just have to go with the scouts. Just because you don't think they're exciting, doesn't mean they aren't.
Or have you put in the work that a scout puts in and have the training and experience of a professional scout? I certainly don't.
For example the Sens scouts were really excited about a guy they picked 15, Erik Karlsson, even though many weren't too excited about him.
We've gotten Guhle, Caufield, and McDonagh outside the top 10. Sergachev at 9. Michkov is my guy. But there will be plenty of good players available at 5. There's more than Michkov in this draft - especially this draft class.
Yeah it's easy to say take the gamble when it's not actually your job/money on the line.Of course you are…. you’re not responsible for significant lost revenue…. $ that are required to incubate & grow side businesses
I’m positive someone who actually owns the business and wants to grow the profit$ won’t think the same way
You’re referring to the organization that couldn’t draft a single impact forward in over ten years. The same organization that committed 90m in cash payments to the worst roster in the league. Same organization that kept Bergevin employed for ten years. Same one that committed 25m to Claude Julien. Etc.Of course you are…. you’re not responsible for significant lost revenue…. $ that are required to incubate & grow side businesses

Highlight videos, sure. Not many people on this board have access to and watch full KHL games of HK Sochi.it’s very easy to find videos of michkov playing lol

Eh, I know it was a different circumstance geopolitically, but the "experts" let Tarasenko fall to 16th, Kuznetsov fall to 26, Kucherov to 58, Kaprizov to 135.I agree. I generally subscribe to the trust the experts mantra as well. I would be so choked though, if we pass and he comes to say Washington in 2 years and takes the reins from OV.

Nobody is saying Michkov isn't talented. But the dramatics here over the possibility that he may not be our pick is outrageous. People are ready to trade Caufield plus our pick just to move up to top 3 so we're assured to get him. It's so over the top for a player that I guarantee nobody has seen play. Maybe some highlight videos, but that's it. You read a few articles that compare this guy to Gretzky and people buy that like it's gospel.might be a reason why craig button has michkov at 4 and leonard at 12...
The unfortunate draft contract situation isn’t even that unfortunate. The more average the player, the longer it is to cross over. Superstars end up coming quickly. Even with additional hurdles. Teams like Caps, Wings and Habs have the wherewithal to facilitate difficult situations. He’ll come sooner than later, and it’ll hit that much harder when it happens… I’ll be all: “we still got a good player in Reinbacher… it’s in 7 years at 25 that Ds hit their potential…”. It won’t dissipate the air of uneasiness around the whole affair. You’re referring to the organization that couldn’t draft a single impact forward in over ten years. The same organization that committed 90m in cash payments to the worst roster in the league. Same organization that kept Bergevin employed for ten years. Same one that committed 25m to Claude Julien. Drafting a the skilled player with an unfortunate contract situation isn’t such a risk!
There are full games on Youtube.
Most are saying to grab him at 5.Nobody is saying Michkov isn't talented. But the dramatics here over the possibility that he may not be our pick is outrageous. Button has a tendency to overrate guys based on international play, ESPECIALLY international play before their draft year. He puts big stock in the Hlinka.Referring to Craig Buttons list is like referring to anyone here's list. It's like arguing Seider was a reach because he had him at 26.
And lots of scouts were proclaiming Nikita Gusev, another SKA undersized winger who put up historic numbers in the KHL as a sure-fire can't miss superstar. Truth is it isn't easy to tell if these guys can translate KHL production to NHL production.Eh, I know it was a different circumstance geopolitically, but the "experts" let Tarasenko fall to 16th, Kuznetsov fall to 26, Kucherov to 58, Kaprizov to 135.
I wouldn't trust these scouts to identify translatable Russian talent if it had been staring them in the face for years.
Gusev was never in the same category of Michkov though...And lots of scouts were proclaiming Nikita Guscv, another SKA undersized winger who put up historic numbers in the KHL as a sure-fire can't miss superstar. Truth is it isn't easy to tell if these guys can translate KHL production to NHL production.
I have no issues taking him at 5. I'm talking about the people here who are saying it is an unforgivable sin to pass on him if he's there at 5. If we take him at 5, I'll be happy and hopeful. If we pass on him and take someone else, I'll be happy and hopeful too, understanding that it isn't a simple situation. There's a lot to consider and a lot of information we don't have access to.Most are saying to grab him at 5.
It’s the perfect stop to take the risk to bring in a potential game changer, if he is still there.
I was able to find one full game from January 2023 on Youtube.
It's fine to rely on highlight videos and scouting reports. I do that too. But when everyone starts getting overly dramatic over a player they have likely never even seen play since 2021 I think you need to take a step back and re-center yourself.
Yeah Gooseegg did well his first year, but I think he just couldn't make decisions quickly enough at the NHL level to make up for his lack of physical tools. And lots of scouts were proclaiming Nikita Guscv, another SKA undersized winger who put up historic numbers in the KHL as a sure-fire can't miss superstar. Truth is it isn't easy to tell if these guys can translate KHL production to NHL production.
