My understanding is the Spengler Cup was his last chance as a "try-out" for Team Canada; since he had to decline due to recovering from surgery I think he's effectively a no-go.Iginla??

Precisely. What is better for a young kid? Playing competitive hockey at his school and staying loyal to the program that wanted you before you were all that, or most likely play the role of the 7th D to a bunch of guys who couldn't hack it in the NHL.Just let the kid play at his school and study. Maybe he values that more than playing in the Olympics as a 19-year-old? It's not a big deal IMO.
I’d be playing as the 7th D on Canada’s Olympic roster and wouldn’t think twicePrecisely. What is better for a young kid? Well good on you. I know I'd rather actually play hockey as a developing prospect with my buds at collage than to ride the pine. If he had said yes he would have much more to lose than to gain. Kudos to him for having the balls to say no, especially after how he was handled at the WJC.I’d be playing as the 7th D on Canada’s Olympic roster and wouldn’t think twice
He's probably making bank down at UMass, so that's a very valid question.Add it to the pile of question marks about this kid. Not sure he has the character to make it in the NHL, despite his skill. Is he another Daigle? How much does he love hockey or is it just a pay day for him?
Oh dear God. A kid who choose playing with a program that showed faith in him when he was still a little known prospect - playing there for no money -, a kid who could've played in the dub and actually earn some money, a kid who values education above travesties like we'll have in SK, is the one with charachter issues, and is only here for the money. Like do you even think before you post this crap?Add it to the pile of question marks about this kid. Not sure he has the character to make it in the NHL, despite his skill. Is he another Daigle? For an athlete, representing your country is the ultimate honour.
I’m not judging him or looking down on him for declining, just saying I don’t understand. It’s his business and I’m sure he feels he made the right choice.
LOL. A kid who's decided to develop playing college hockey while continuing his studies and being in class is in it for the pay day... okay.Add it to the pile of question marks about this kid. Again...ALL NHLers are pay day. If the NHL came out tomorrow and said they will only provide players with living expenses and a small allowance for spending money....how many you think stick around because they "love the game?"Some people play because they love the game. It's Canadian. It Runs in our Blood. I bleed and Sweat hockey. Not everyone does. Even the most skilled. Not just Maker. Lots of players are just a pay day. Just saying he might be another.
