Kid just spent a month away from school and his team to get completely underused by Canada at the WJC. He'd likely see even less ice time at this event. Plus the event is a joke of a tournament without real talent there.

Here is an interesting story - Cale Make has supposedly declined an invite to Team Canada at the Olympics.

Normally this wouldn't be extended to a junior aged player, but with the NHL restriction it was a once in a life time opportunity for him.

The guy values his UMass team and values loyalty more then anyone else. Leaving UMass to play in the World Juniors was a long time away already, probably wants to get back into some normalcy in his life and playing with the team he committed to 2 years ago instead of going on another whirlwind trip where he might not even get to play much again.


This is significantly better for his development.
