A loss here may be for the best in the long run, there's a decent amount of players on Canada who really shouldn't be here. A win may provide some false hope for the Olympics.
Honestly I'm so cynical about it at this point that I can't see management changes being made win or lose. Same dummies are gonna be given the reigns for the Olympics either way, so may as well win.

People said the same about world jrs last year and they somehow got worse.

Nothing will be changed if they lose. Might as well hope for a win when you can get it.

Supposedly Charlie McAvoy has been checked into the hospital.

I don't care how good their goaltending is, unless Team USA's best players start recovering fast, we should win this.

The U.S. team is turning into a MASH unit.

There D has been hit hard. The Tkachuk brothers are hurting. Matthews is a hurt. No excuse for us NOT to win if those guys don't heal fast.
Binnington:

Us leafs fans have seen whst the world is seeing
He might not get 12 in the final
Its just hockey for passionate skilled players
Marner has skill but cant jam
Its no secret
Same goes for Kyle Connor on team USA, and I’m a Jets fan.

I was hoping KC would get recognized a bit more on this stage - instead he came to play flag football. No physicality, still trying to dopey doodle on the world’s best. He needs to grind and fight.

Hopefully Marner and Kyle take some notes and learn for the playoffs. I’m not holding my breathe.

If you’ll do anything, will you please ride the bench.

I will admit Drew looked really good in moments. But also very bad. Very inconsistent.

Hopefully good Drew shows up for 60 minutes. Breakouts and transition is so important, we need better than 50%.

There is no way Binnington isn't starting Thursday unless there's some injury or illness. Similarly, there is no way that there are any roster changes without an injury or illness as you don't make a change with a winning roster unless you're forced to.

Would also like to add that the 2nd goal is one that Binnington should have stopped, along with the 1st one, as his over sliding led to him being out of position and having to come back into the net, leaving his 5 hole open.

Reinhart, Marner (outside of the one goal), Stone (outside of the one goal), Marchand, Konecny, and Cirelli have all been largely absent. No team can win without depth, and for the most part, our depth have been largely absent.

The defense has been ok, but have struggled dealing with a strong forecheck, which the US has a very strong forecheck.

If Canada doesn't win on Thursday, one of the failings of the roster build is going to be heaviness. If you go back to 2010 and 2016, when the tournaments were on NA ice, there was always a line or two that had the ability to be disruptors during and after the play. I think back to the line of Staal - Getzlaf - Perry from 2010 and a few guys from 2016 which also included Getzlaf and Perry along with guys like Thornton, O'Reilly and a couple of others. Going a bit too heavy in 2014 almost did them in.

The thing that made things so special was they were given a role on the team, to be checkers, and they did that role for the good of the team.

This is also where Cooper has failed, and I'll also say the leadership of the team as well. Those teams in 2010, 2014, and 2016, were some of the most laser focused teams. Say what you want about Babcock, but what he and the leadership group were able to do with those guys, to get every single player to buy in to the plan, was what won them those Gold medals and World Cup trophy.
I don't agree with that many players being absent, particularly someone like Stone who has been noticeable defensively, but I do agree about Cooper. To be fair to him, Babcock had three shots at it. Even Babcock's detractors admit that he was always very prepared and knew how to organize a team and game plan.

I expect that the Canadian players will be confident going into Thursday. Some confident, experienced teams have lost in the past though. The 1996 Canada Cup shows that.

Some people here are actually hoping we lose so that we can...wait for it... choose a better roster next time (meaning their preferred players). Supporting their personal idea of a fantasy roster over the actual team representing the country.

You! Get out of my condo, right now! If they win on Thursday, Canada brought the right roster. Period.

Well said.

As I said before, Hockey Canada caught hell for not bringing enough skilled players at Christmas. This time, they brought TONS of skill and now they're catching hell for not bringing enough "weight".

Hockey Canada can't win.

As for me, I'd like more "weight" next time.

The amusing thing is that people think Hockey Canada would actually learn the right lesson from a bad loss on Thursday.

Much more likely they would conclude the answer is even more 'role players.'

When Makar was out: It means nothing, part of the game.
When McAvoy is out: Unfair, we're injured.

Makar is several tiers above McAvoy as well.

He sacrificed everything to defend Canada for one game. Unfortunately for him, it was a meaningless game.
yeah.. a "meaningless game" where they clinched a trip to the finals and made Canada's future uncertain. How do tournaments work?
