This TC , so far, is having a lot of trouble on the PP, especially in the last 2 games against U-sports. There is a general lack of line chemistry and complete passes.
The coaches utilized the umbrella PP formation with Hayton on the left side and Glass on the right side on PP1, and they were having a lot trouble with the general Power Play. I wonder what the coaches are thinking. By putting the left-handed Hayton on the left side and right-handed Glass on the right. They were not in the best position for quick shots and one-timer. Were the coaches trying to test PP1 players ability ? This is such a strange formula. PP1 players were not successful in any shot attempts. Glass is not known for shooting and so is Hayton. PP2 players were a little bit better with Frost taking shot on the left side and scored. The umbrella PP formation is really difficult to perfect with players NOT on their offsides, preparing for one-timers. Were the coaches trying the test their players?????

Further, with the exception of 1 or 2 lines, there is a general lack of line chemistry and eagerness for puck. Coaches need to move players around. I suspect 18 yrs old players will get cut: 2 forwards = Lavoie (lost the puck on several occasions, generally ineffective) , Dellandrea (mediocre perfomance), or possibly Ratcliffe or Veleno (both with average performances) . 2 D-men = Crotty and Addison.

Tomorrow 3rd game, TC should test the following lines to test players chemistry:

1. Comtois - Veleno -Tippett = last chance for Veleno to show his offense effectiveness

2. Ratcliffe - Glass - Leason = last chance for Ratcliffe to show his offense ability, Glass should gel better with Leason.

3. Lafreniere - Vilardi - Suzuki = Vilardi should be healthy enough tomorrow. Like to see Suzuki on the wing as he does not play well in defensive zone, weak in defensive zone coverage against stronger opponents. Vilardi cannot play then Frost needs to play.

4. Foudy - Bowers - Entwistle = This can be an interesting line; Foudy and Entwistle have played 3 straight games.

1. Beaudin - Bernard-Docker (This pair needs to show their perfect game or they will be cut)
2. McIsaac - Mitchell
3. Phillips - Dobson (Phillips needs to show his puck carrying ability in the defensive zone to win job over McIsaac and Joseph)
4. Joseph/Smith

I'm a little surprised that Dellandrea was among the first cuts, but he hadn't done a lot in the exhibition games. Studnicka and Frost producing offensively likely hurt him.

I'm also confused by McKenzie's comment that Canada has to release one more goaltender. Canada may intend to release one more goaltender, but as far as I know each team is allowed to carry three goaltenders.

Did you forget Hayton?

Hockey Canada doesn't normally name 3 goaltenders to the roster. and if they do, it's generally when the tournament is in Europe where getting a 3rd. goalie quickly to the tournament in the event of injury would be a challenge.

Spot on the cuts. Well done

I know that. I am confused by the comment that Canada has to release a goaltender, not that Canada will release one.

it's a bit nuanced and he could have worded it better/ explained it better. has to due to internal Hockey Canada policy. I guess that's what he meant.

does McKenzie even still like doing this junior gig for TSN? I don't think he does.

I think he enjoys doing the junior tournament more then he likes covering nightly NHL action to be honest. He is partially checked out in general though.

Would it be a shocker if Lafreniere got cut? Would they dare?
Some of these offensive players better start to produce.
Leason/Veleno/Lafreniere/Hayton/Ratcliffe.
Some on is going in that group.

I can’t say as I haven’t watched the games. Personally, I think Lafreniere will make the team but it’s just a wild guess.

You left out Studnicka bud and trust me he is making that team.
