Can Bedard challenge for Peter Forsbergs record?

Is Bedard unpopular?
A lot of people under-rate him because while he is skilled, it's not physical ability he uses to dominate games. Since they can't see a flashy individual skill he's dominating games with, some people write off his success as the result of external factors or even just luck.

The numbers so far are pretty insane.
He has more points than the next 2 top scorers combined. Only Stankoven has more total points than Bedard's 7 PP points.

I recall lindros playing as 16,17,18,19. All four years.

All Bedard hypers getting sour about others saying Crosby and McDavid where stronger talents.
He played 21 games over 3 years. Won two gold medals and was an All-star and Tournaments Best Forward in 1991.

He was part of the 1992 team that shit the bed and came in 6th. Even then he put up 10 points and was Canada's only scorer in the top 10.

That is a pretty good WJC record.

The NHL isn't what it used to be. Now, Bedard is the best player in the WHL right as we speak and yet the Pats suck.

Same thing with the McDavid Oilers. One player typically can't carry a whole team.

Take away Forsberg's 10 point game versus Japan (and Bedard's best game) and they're neck and neck.

Ill take away Austrias game because Germany is better, even if Bedard scored 7p.

That makes Bedards mean 4p, with a lot of help from Germany.

Why isnt there a facepalm emoji here... stamkos is a very pleasant comparision for Bedard.
Stamkos is a great player and a future Hall of Farmer... but at the current rate of development Bedard is on, Stamkos is a pretty underwhelming comparable, in my opinion.

I have not been this pumped about a prospect at 17 years of age since.... Lindros? Like everyone else, Bedard has blown my expectations out of the water at the WJR's.

I just worry about Berdard's size (or lack thereof).

A few years ago, posters (myself included) said we would never get another Alexandre Daigle because scouting / sports technology had advanced to a level that it would never happen, again.

That's a "LAF". :sarcasm:

Needless to say, that will not be the case with Bedard.

If you take away Stamkos' rookie year, I don't see how a team could be underwhelmed with the following production from Bedard while on his ELC:

82 GP 51-44-95
82 GP 45-46-91
81 GP 60-37-97

Especially given Bedard won't be joining a powerhouse right out the gate, scoring 40-50 as a teenager would be historically good. The "best" situation for him would probably be Columbus (Gaudreau, Laine, Sillinger, Johnson up front with Dumais coming, Jiricek, Mateychuk, Ceulemans, Svozil all arriving soon on the backend) but Anaheim with Zegras, Terry, McTavish, Mintyukov, Drysdale, and Zellweger is pretty sweet too.

Why would we take away Stamkos' rookie year? That's what he did (23 goals) and what I think Bedard is going to significantly improve upon. I also think Bedard will have a better career in totality. You just cherry picked one aspect of what Stamkos has been.

Because Bedard is a significantly better prospect lol. That's likely the difference between he and Stamkos- it's like getting the 19-year-old version out of the gate.
Yeah... That was my point. Bedard is a better prospect and as good as Stamkos has been, I'm expecting even more from Bedard.

Stamkos is a 500 goal, 1000 pts guy. There haven't been that many players at that level in NHL history. If that's the floor people have in mind you know the guy might be hyped lol.

FWIW I fully believe that what Bedard is showing is special, and I totally understand why people go bananas. This is a guy worth tanking for, no matter what happens.

He's only hit 50 in two seasons. C'mon, Rick Vaive had more than that!
He would hit 50 much more if not injuries.

I know you want me to say ; Hes gonna be a 140 pt consecvense scorer. He gonna score 70 -80 goals and compete for Richard every year!

People bring up Forsberg's 10 spot on Japan, I'm curious how strong the rest of the teams in that tournament were compared to this years with the tournament missing a top 4 country in Russia. I don't think it takes away from what Bedard has done, but I don't think it's completely irrelevant either.

Forsberg also had to play against Canada instead of Sweden, which is obviously a stronger opponent. Difficult to compare a round robin format where everyone plays everyone to the knockout format today where you can avoid strong opponents.

The fact that the record is even attainable is a huge testament to Bedard’s play though.
