It’s tugs at the emotions big time to see Kyle Clifford traded. It leaves a hole in the organization when it comes to role models. But as a pending UFA and with a lottery team, you have to capitalize on the asset in order to rebuild.

I see the return as Moore and the conditional 3rd for Clifford plus salary retained. I like what’s coming back as a mix of quantity + minor quality. Moore is another undrafted NCAA kid and he’ll be 25 in March, so there is almost zero upside in terms of getting a potential top six player. But he’ll make the bottom six younger and quicker. Plus he’s under contract to the end of next season. With some time back from a concussion and with the opportunity to play more minutes and higher in the lineup, he’s a solid gamble to take. Although I would have preferred Pierre Engvall given the salary retained. He looks like he has some better upside.

The Columbus 3rd for Campbell is fair value. I expected a fourth given how his numbers have regressed this season plus his upcoming pay raise. Nice guy, I hope he survives the crazy media spotlight in Toronto. That town has chewed up and spit out goalies for way longer than I’ve been watching hockey. But I think he’ll do okay whatever happens, look at Bernier to see a guy who left the Leafs and had a solid nhl career.

If the third turns into a second in 2021 (afaik), then I would give this trade an A grade. So like all trades the final assessment is TBD. For now, I like this move by Blake. He made progress on the rebuild and took some gambles which have some upside while weaponizing his cap space. Let’s hope he keeps this up and picks up the pace and creativity.

Initial Grade = Solid B

Love waking up and seeing a trade. This team needs an enema and it looks like it's finally started. Hopefully this opens the floodgates.
At this point I hope Doughty is moved to Toronto and we see Montreal and them go deep into the playoffs as we lose the draft lottery.

see the deal very similar

Go win six games Campbell

...and help the Leafs get into the playoffs. :D

"Go Leafs Go!"...gross, I just puked in my mouth a bit.

Well, I guess they finally struck the match and threw it on the tire fire.

That said. I'm going to miss Clifford and Campbell. Clifford never ever took a night off or really even a shift. Dude has more will and determination that any of the players on the Kings who wear letters combined. I would not be opposed to him coming back.
Campbell put the work in and made himself a viable NHL goalie. I'm always going to root for him. Never have I seen a teammate more loved than that guy, Just likable.
Thanks for the effort and the memories.

Excited with what's upcoming, but remember when we trim the fat off and some of the younger guys come up, I can see us doing considerably better in the standings, which doesn't help the tank!

Fair assessment

Clifford for a 3rd (or 2nd)
Campbell for a 3rd (or 2nd)
Plus a young 4th line plug.

Sure, value seems fine but doesn't change anything. It frees up a spot for Cal, but does nothing to address the issues with this team.

Bandaid on a bullet wound seems appropriate.

Oh and I understand that only one of those picks can be a 2nd.

Geezus, you sure do a lot of whining in regards to the Kings actually making smart moves for the direction they should be moving. Who else are you gonna cry about when they are traded? Toffoli? Lewis? Martinez? Did you go and on about Pearson too when he was moved?

Buckle up, buttercup.

I don't think LA was going to be able to address bigger issues with Campbell and Clifford though

This is the one area where getting rid of Clifford does help, he's the one guy who brought it every night.

We somehow got our backup goalie and a 4th line UFA to bolster an already top ranked pipeline.

What are the "issues" with this team other than "we are rebuilding?"

And how do you expect trading a 4th line UFA and backup goalie to solve said issues?

It's a rebuild. There is no magic bandaid. Acquire assets, shed veterans. That's what they're doing. More trades are coming.

And honestly this sentimentality is pretty dumb. It's Lombardi-esque. It's exactly why the Kings HAVE to rebuild right now. Love Clifford but it's this kind of married-to-players nonsense that got the Kings in this position in the first place. Wish Clifford and Soup well - two guys who weren't going to be on the roster this summer anyway.

I bet you're thrilled to watch Trevor Moore play. It'll give you some Brendan Leipsic vibes.

How dare we be sad to see Stanley Cup Championship players move.

Sad is one thing, bitching and moaning about is another. It's not 2014 anymore. If it makes you feel better to keep all the players that have resulted in one playoff game win in the last 6 seasons and two of the worst seasons we've witnessed as Kings fans, I don't know what else to tell you.

Soupy seemed like such a likable guy. Can't wait to see him steal the starter job from Andersen.
leaf fan... is this legit though? You think he can?

Btw moore is solid, you won't ever be pissed at him, and some games he may even take over a period or two. Solid dude who has 40 pt potential that you can trust defensively.
