OT: Winnipeg Blue Bombers 2025 Thread - Here we go again

Logan is a decent scatback type RB. A quicker more explosive Johnny Augustine. Also he's a solid if unspectacular returner as well which helps his value. I'm thinking he'll be the starting returner and change of pace back for Oliveira with limited O touches unless Brady goes down.

Vaughters was once an elite pass rusher, but that was a long time ago. After solid success with Stamps in 17-18 he went down south where played as a rotational OLB (edge rusher) and STer for quite a few years. Came back to CFL in 2023 I think and has never had that quickness off the line like before, but he's turning 32 in June so that makes sense. Quality veteran DE, but ideally he's a DE3, IMO.

Jones i don't know that much about tbh. I vaguely remember him in TO over past 3 years, he's been ok but not a standout as far as I know. Looks like he's had injury trouble as well.

So Mitchell and Logan share the return duties...

Im a bit confused about the ratio this year - esp if Bombers are in on Stubblefield as reported.

Feels like we might be headed for a Canadian interior DL

If i had to guess right now it'd be Logan as primary returner with Mitchell only filling in if necessary due to injury.

Not a great free agency at all for the Bombers.

I would’ve thought moving on from guys like Biggie, Alexander, Wolitarsky, and apparently Lawler, plus Schoen taking a pay cut, would’ve opened up more cap space, but we haven’t signed anyone notable and are apparently doubling down with Lofton at RT. Yeesh. Hope the scouts can find some good rookies.

There's still a chance that we re-up Dobson. Sounds like Lawler is heading to Hamilton.

Tbh Dobson was a big meh to me. Gabe Wallace will be better than him this year, IMO. Wallace-Kolankowski-Neufeld is ok in the middle of the OL. It's the tackles I'm worried about. Bryant was showing his age a bit last year and Lofton is all kinds of mediocre. I'm sure the Bombers will draft an OL at #7 to pair with Eli as OLs6/7, I'm not to worried there.

Really it's DL, OT and QB I'm most worried about right now. Well find rookie Americans at DB and WR. They are plentiful. But a top end American DT to pair with Lawson, a top end pass rusher opposite Willie, a top end tackle to solidify the line were must haves to me. And we got nothing. QB, we'll we all knew Zach would get another chance, we'll see how it goes. But if are running with Terry Wilson as #2, we are in trouble.

It's genuinely difficult for me to get excited about the upcoming season. All the goodwill of winning back-to-back Grey Cups was more than pissed away by losing three in a row. I have zero confidence that O'Shea is the right person, and I tend to think we won in spite of him, not because of him. I'm completely indifferent towards the start of the season, which is pathetic for me, because even in our dark years, I always had hope. Now I feel like hope is the enemy.

I thought keeping Collaros last year was a mistake. Disappointed we are running with him, again.

Albeit Logan is an RB not WR. WR5 is likely to be Keric Wheatfall.

I think Schmekel and Kelly end up backups though, with either future UFAs or rookie Americans taking those spots in camp.

Really hope we add another DE and DT though.

I'm thinking Ontaria Wilson will be cut before the NFL regular season starts — would he come back to Winnipeg on an ELC? Or how would that work? We retain his rights?

Yup, if he returns to CFL this year it will be to finish out his contract. IMO its likely he in Blue and Gold by late Sept/early Oct. Either way he'll be UFA next Feb.

If you didn't like going 2 for 5 straight Grey Cups, how did you ever manage those "dark years" when we weren't even remotely close to being in the Grey Cup?
