OT: Winnipeg Blue Bombers 2025 Thread - Here we go again

Bombers are releasing Wolitarsky. It sucks, he was always dependable when he played, especially on 2nd down. That said, he was hurt a couple of times last year and Clercius filled in admirably.

I think with this as well as moving on from Bighill that the Bombers are going to try to make a big play to keep Lawler/Schoen/Ford (assuming the NFL doesn't work out for him) OR they're going to try to make a splash in free agency.

I do not get this move at all... Woli is a core part of this team - in the locker room as well...

Walters must be ramping up for a national RT

I think they are trying to save money to upgrade RT big time, with idea that whomever they sign is gonna move to LT in 2026. Sucks for Drew, everyone loved him but really he's just a meh piece, I think Clercius passed him last year as National WR#2 behind Demski. Upgrades at RT, KR, DL, DB and perhaps most importantly at ST are needed. For the first time in half a decade the Bombers need to Wade into CFL FA, IMO. Can't depend on rookies next year. We've already seen that with WR/KR Dillon Mitchell.

I'm sitting by the pool in Mexico currently though so I'm signing off

Damn I'm gonna miss Wolitarsky. Good locker room guy and a reliable 2nd down guy but I suppose with all the options at WR, he was the odd man out. They're probably going to take a run at bringing both Lawler and Schoen back on top of the guys they already have along with saving money to try and keep Ford.

I'm sure he'll land on his feet somewhere, but this is just another example of how cruel and thankless the business of Football can be.

One notable not-re-signing in Bighill and a notable release in Wolitarsky. Really thought the Bombers were going to try and keep a majority of the band together for One Last Run™ but looks like Walters is going to be aggressive somewhere to either try and keep someone, or go after a significant addition (hopefully on the offensive line, if that's the case).

If there's one thing that bugs me, it's that it appears to be becoming a trend where the Bombers front office apparently rarely stays in communication with their players during the offseason to at least hint at whatever direction they're going in. It is a business at the end of the day but just feels like a lot of folks getting caught offguard by a direction or lack of communication, yet the "locker room culture" is supposed to be a strength of the club.

That does seem strange and against the culture that they get routinely praised for. Something they could possibly improve on.

Come on. Business is business. No one guarantees you a contract especially in football. Winning CULTURE is what matters. If the Bombers can better spend a players money elsewhere that’s the GMs job.

There's no loyalty in sports, players for the most part go where they can make the most and teams get rid of you when you cost to much or can't perform anymore. Running a team is not a charity.

I don't think anyone is saying the org shouldn't make a hard decision on players and move on if need be.

The comment from WPGChief was that it is seeming like the Bombers org is not doing a great job in communication in the offseason. It may not be a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but good communication with players both on their way in, and on their way out can be seen by some players in the league as a positive indication of an org.
