Cal dug his own grave and it's been a while. He was horrible in preseason and it didn't get much better.

But that doesn't change the fact that a lot of the problems stem from the defense. Fix that and things improve some. Get a LHD and play your best Dman regardless of other reasons. Even some of the forwards (vets -- not just the kids) making them accountable for defensive effort (or lack there of).

Petersen is attached with a 1st/Turcotte/Grans to offload the contract, CBJ gets Durzi and Kupari, and then NJD will get uhhh Madden.
So to make changes LA gets rid Petersen, our 1st in 2023,Turcotte,Grans,Durzi,Kupari and Madden. So you are offering a 7 for 3 trade and those players coming back are who? Will they be worth the first rounder even? And by the way the reason this franchise has gotten into trouble is by Offloading first rounders like ridding themselves of day old underwear. Was done 50 years ago, was done during the Gretzky era and done when Lombardi thought the winning of Cups would never end. Blake needs to scrap the whole kit and caboodle or go down with the Ship. Maybe the Kings should have hired Michael Futa for the GM post not ex-number 4. And a lot of posters want TM's head on a block...well...time for youngsters to move on in and vets to head out cause this isn't getting fixed by the Old guard

This definitely isn’t just about last night, though I think the Kings win the game if they had just kept Quick in. The goals against him weren’t really his fault. Can’t say the same for Cal, who seemed to really struggle with the blocker.

My favorite thing today is watching fans and pundits of Canadian teams going WOW 5 MILLION FOR ANOTHER TWO YEARS AFTER THIS? WHAT IDIOTS while trying to figure out/reconcile Campbell, Markstrom, and Matt Murray.
Not goalies but how about Kadri and Huberdeau?

Once that bad angle puck went up in the air and in, I had a feeling something had to give.

I was surprised he was still on the bench after that horrible GWG he gave up to the Rangers.

Oh I agree. I think it's atypical for a guy to come back and give up a WORSE goal too, usually NHL goalies bounce back but the last few appearances from Cal have seen some completely non-pro-hockey plays, it's been wild

I feel like this is about last night.

Cal hasn’t played recently and his last outing is a classic stinker.

He’s sitting watching Quick show his age after an extended stretch for like half the game. So he needs to be getting ready to come into what is actually a winnable game.

Instead he looks completely lost on his first real chance against and even Foxy can’t defend him.

From there the game stays winnable in a clown show fashion and Cal plays like third clown instead of the fire fighter.

Then in the post game, the ring master describes the team as in mass confusion, like a three alarm fire. Truly a night at the circus.

So it’s no surprise that the next day the elephant sized shit that gets swept out first thing is the guy who asked for the moon and got the stars but has completely failed to launch.

Canceling practice is an obvious ploy to avoid having the players / coaches address the move. I doubt another move is coming. More likely, talking points are being disseminated and we’ll be told this is a conditioning assignment for reason’s related to performance.

Outside the low odds of a waiver claim or even lower odds of a trade, it’s hard to see any next step other than Cal being the Reign’s starting goalie. At least till New Years.

How much worse could Copley be as a back up. Especially in light of what you’d have to subtract in a trade for someone like a Varlamov. A move to upgrade the net will cost heavy futures to make the cap work.

So giving up a top 3-8 prospect to try and salvage what were meager hopes to begin with, seems destined to be a quickly regrettable move. You’d need a Felix Potvin like performance from Varlamov or whoever to rectify the original error in making a stupid financial decision by offering Petersen his deal.

I mean I won’t miss him but it’s not like there’s anyone else even remotely possibly even slightly better waiting in the wings.
Pheonix Copley...He's 6-4-1, 2.48 GAA, .913 SV% with the Reign and he flat out outplayed Petersen in the Preseason. While Villalta is 4-2-1, 2.19 GAA, .927 SV%, he doesn't have any NHL experience like Copley does. With the Kings playing Tomorrow, Copley seems like the sensible call-up in the short term.

I mean… the AHL ain’t the NHL and Ontario’s defense is far less of a clusterf*** than LA’s. I guess it can’t be much worse than what we saw last night but it’s not exactly inspiring confidence

You don't want to over work Quick. Villalta is age 23 and still developing. Copley could have some starts for the Kings, so Quick stays fresh. I think the only reason Copley was sent back to the Reign to start the season, was because of Petersen's $5 million cap hit. They gave Petersen a chance to work out his game till now and it failed. Last night against the Kraken, it seemed to me that Petersen just simply missed on making some saves. The blocker rainbow puck into the net was the worst one.

Yeah I mean Quick can’t and shouldn’t be asked to carry the load at this stage of his career. I’m just not sure anyone in Ontario is the answer either, even in the short term. I guess we’re about to find out.

You never know until you play Copley. Another option could be Magnus Hellberg with the Wings. He's age 31 and has a $750k cap hit. Wings had picked him up on waivers and he could go on waivers again, as Nedeljkovic is playing for the Wings right this minute.

yeah, 5 mil is pretty cheap for two more years considering what those 3 are making and their term is. Those guys are in no position to point fingers at someone elses goalie contacts.

This is like being in a car crash. Your legs are broken. You have a brain bleed. Your lung is punctured, and your spleen is lacerated. But let’s get those legs in a cast to start.

Like yeah, sure, your legs are broken. Get that fixed. But there’s a lot more that needs to happen before we can talk about a good prognosis.

No.

I said one of a 1st, Turcotte, or Grans. Not all three. Hell, the way this organization is ran I'd be surprised if any of those three get to 100 games with the Kings anyways.

If you do that deal the guy better be a LHD, under 25, and elite.Period.

I think with Turcotte they'll give him at least 100 games to see what they have due to his slow progress to the nhl [ which is not his fault because of health] . I see him as Valardi 2.0, so much potential, he just needs a healthy year and then go from there.
