Canceling practice is an obvious ploy to avoid having the players / coaches address the move. I doubt another move is coming. More likely, talking points are being disseminated and we’ll be told this is a conditioning assignment for reason’s related to performance.

Outside the low odds of a waiver claim or even lower odds of a trade, it’s hard to see any next step other than Cal being the Reign’s starting goalie. At least till New Years.

How much worse could Copley be as a back up. Especially in light of what you’d have to subtract in a trade for someone like a Varlamov. A move to upgrade the net will cost heavy futures to make the cap work.

So giving up a top 3-8 prospect to try and salvage what were meager hopes to begin with, seems destined to be a quickly regrettable move. You’d need a Felix Potvin like performance from Varlamov or whoever to rectify the original error in making a stupid financial decision by offering Petersen his deal.

Practice likely cancelled because the coaching staff was in Blake's office including future interim coach Hiller. T Mac was way rattled and too honest at the presser.

His speed is comparable to Kopitar. What do we have to lose? Vilardi has excelled prior to getting a knock or two he has earned it. He might actually be able to win a draw on the PP.

What do we have to lose? An effective Gabe Vilardi. We saw him at center before, it's not his skill set at the NHL level. He will start hanging back so he doesn't miss his defensive assignments, start overthinking, and that will be the end of his production. It's exactly why he was moved to the wing in the first place.

And if that happens we move him back to wing again. These Ontario boys stick with it and can handle it fish. He is a different player this year. We need to check him at C and see.

He can play for LA tomorrow if he clears, he doesn't HAVE to go to the Reign...I'm just assuming he will becuase that would be crazytown if not.

But if he clears, there's 30 days or 10 games played--whichever comes first--before he has to clear waivers again (please correct me if I'm wrong, that's my understanding but no one jumped on it yet).

I was listening to the Hockey Royalty YT stream and they discussed the Petersen replacement options from within.

They mentioned giving some upcoming games to Villalta because he’s earned it with his play for the reign. Let him take one of the upcoming games versus Ottawa or Montreal.

I’m not against it, but, I have a sneaky suspicion that Cal clears waivers and stays with the Kings. Obviously the move was a knee jerk response to the Kraken clown show. So this could effectively be just a move by the GM to try and shake things up in the locker room.

Nothing concrete will come of this that results in a roster upgrade. Therefore it’s purely sending a message that if a winning streak fails to materialize, someone who drives a Ferrari isn’t seeing their kids as Xmas.

Do you know what, I agree assuming a trade doesn’t suddenly occur. There is nothing to lose and maybe he surprises because Copley isn’t the long term answers and goaltenders are just weird. MAYBE Cal can get his confidence back in the AHL and rediscover his fundamentals - I’m not expecting it at this point but…. Well, goaltending…. 🤷‍♂️

They were talking about it yesterday on one of the sports shows, Friedman said he was told they told Peterson if he clears he IS going to the AHL and he will play there,

He also said this decision was made because of the Seattle game, (he called someone about it) but he said if you watch the body language, after all 4 goals, it got progressively worse, and worse, and worse.

okay yes he sucks but to say hes blown EVEY SINGLE OPPOTUNITY is not true He does have games he has played in in which we have won He has more wins then losses

Yes, he's won some games this year -- but only because the Kings have outscored the opponent, he's never been the #1 star if that makes it more clear. For 5-mil bucks and the idea that he will be replacing Quick, he hasn't shown it...not even close.

i never once said anything different only that one cannot say every single opportunity when he has won some games when he did play He did enough to win them
 
the move is obviously to send him down and let him try to find his game again. With a shot of team shake up too. But no way he's back with the team. His confidence, play, etc. all need to be rebuilt -- in the AHL.

I know he hasn’t looked good this year. I just wonder how bad the D in front of him is. What ever happened to Sparks?

even if he sucks, he's expected to suck and he's not being paid $5M to suck yknow?

cal's backbreakers hurt way more because of the expectations, even if villalta lets in more of them, you can brush em off

I thought waivers clears and announcements were at 9am everyday? When do we find out that Peterson cleared? Not that I’m expecting otherwise…
