To an extent.. there are a few prospects performing as well as Nylander yet I don't see anyone calling them one of the most valuable pieces in the NHL/NHL scoring leaders this season. Yet I've seen comments like this a few times in this thread and other places.

Meh. I haven't seen anyone here say that about Nylander. If one "yahoo" did, then so what?

I've read some ridiculous statements about other team's prospects who are doing well. It's not hard to find, if you go 'a reading them there threads out there.

;)

I've seen one Leaf fan say that.

One guy (Corporal Komarov, I believe) posted that and unfortunately he had the lack of foresight to post it on the Trade Board.

Leafs fans in general are really impressed, excited and hopeful about Nylander, which I think is completely warranted by his player before and since being drafted.
Unfortunately there are a few people out there that take it way, way too far.

I guess Nylander has been somewhat compared to every single 1st round forward in his respective draft class. Are we turning a page and start bringing in the 2015 guys in as well? :sarcasm:

Dont be surprised, but I expect Nylander to be called up at approximately the 20 game mark, if Kadri continues to struggle to put up points. Leafs need more production than from just one of their top 6 centers(Bozak). It would be silly to keep Nylander down in the AHL when he can help the NHL team.

Unless they don't care about helping the NHL team which actually seems like the much wiser decision. Why burn a year towards UFA eligibility in a year when you have no reasonable shot at success? Cap management is just as important to eventually constructing a cup contending roster.

"The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t given any thought, at this point anyway, to loaning William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen to the Swedish and Finnish national junior teams for the 2016 WJC.

So on the sliding scale of Yes-Likely-Doubtful-No, the chances of the two 19-year-olds, currently playing for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, are in the doubtful category, which is to say the door hasn’t been slammed shut just yet but the mere fact the Leafs haven’t given much thought to the notion is telling.

The Leafs like the progress their young players are making with the Marlies and wouldn’t be eager to disrupt them."

From Bob McKenzie.

Interesting but I guess it makes sense. It would disrupt the nice momentum him (and the Marlies) have right now. Also kind of unnecessary since he would be far-and-away the best player at the WJC...better competition for him in the AHL.

As for Kapanen, I'm kind of surprised. I feel like he could benefit from the WJC.

Agreed on Kap. I could see him being released to the WJC in the end. He hasn't been bad this season but has had a tough time getting going with injuries/sickness. WJC could give him a nice boost.

"haven't given any thought to" /= "not going to send"

If they haven't thought about it then what makes you think they've decided to not send them? It's still over a month away, they wouldn't have made a decision yet even if they had had a discussion about it.

If the Swedes don't choose Timashov and Lindgren for the team then I'm all for not releasing Nylander.

Timashov is all but a lock, but if you're expecting Lindgren there I think you'll be disappointed. Think he's more likely to not make it than make it.

I don't know if it's misinformation, but on multiple occasions poster have mentioned that if an eligible WJC player is playing in the AHL, then the major team has no choice but to release him based on IIHF agreements. Based on posts of Bob and some now recent posters in this thread, it seems like the leafs have a choice of whether he stays on the marlies or goes. So which is it? Do the marlies have a say or do they have no choice in the matter?

so the leafs are going to make a push for the playoffs? :sarcasm:

I believe this is false, if the NHL wants to then they can keep the player in the OHL/AHL/NHL...etc, etc. Its not up to the player.
