All this hyping is reminding me of Paajarvi and Josefson. Hope it won't come to that though.

Uhhhhhh... I understand the hype makes it a little annoying but to compare him to fellow Swedish busts or average players is going to the other extreme.

Josefson managed 40 points in 60 AHL games in between the aged of 19 and 22 years old. Paajarvi managed 81 points in 115 AHL games in between the ages of 20 to 24 years old.

Nylander 51 points in 51 games as a 18-19 year old.

This doesn't even mention the numbers Nylander put up in the SHL. I don't have the numbers close but I'm pretty sure he outscored the players you compared him to by a good amount.

He could very bust or not be as good as people make him out to be but I think the hype is definitely warranted. We won't be the first or last fan base to overrated a player that has clearly warranted the attention.

Exactly. Nylander warrants every bit of hype he's getting right now. If ANY prospect anywhere performed like he's doing now, they would/should get the same.

Throughout their careers in the SHL:

Magnus Paajarvi: 49 points in 134 games (.36 PPG)
Jacob Josefson: 36 points in 93 games (.38 PPG)
William Nylander: 26 points in 43 games (.60 PPG)

Josefson and Paajarvi were also older than Nylander for a chunk of their SHL careers.

These are literally the worst kinds of posts on this site. I'd rather see Crosby or Malkin trade proposals tbh...

How are either of those two even comparable to Nylander...sigh

The math looks pretty simple here. 49>36>26
Nylander will be lucky to come close to those two legends

Yes but you're ignoring the games played. Clearly Nylander wasn't allowed to play as many games as those two since the coaches thought he wasn't needed.

lol right?

"your prospect is good but these two other Swedish players who have nothing in common with him didn't turn out so great so...yeah thats my argument"

Dylan Larkin will probably bust...I mean look at Tyler Biggs.
Am I doing this right?

Has anyone ever considered he is succeeding too early in his career? Seeing as each player has a predetermined number of points they can achieve over a career, is Nylander wasting his on his age 18 and 19 seasons? He just won't have any left before he gets to the NHL.

Considering this my pro-scouting resume.

What? :badidea:

To an extent.. there are a few prospects performing as well as Nylander yet I don't see anyone calling them one of the most valuable pieces in the NHL/NHL scoring leaders this season. Yet I've seen comments like this a few times in this thread and other places.

I've seen similar hype for other players in other threads, it's just not as many people doing the hyping. Bigger fan presence leads to higher number of the vocal minority being heard, and Leaf fans make up a significant portion of the HF population.

I've seen one Leaf fan say that.

So many defensive posters in here. Say one bad thing and 5 people jump you. Everytime I check this thread it hardly ever has any Nylander updates. How's he doing? I saw that beautiful GWG against STJ. Anyone got some video of his play on the defensive side?

That type of stuff usually doesn't make the highlight reels but he's making progress. He still needs to improve a bit more as any 19 year old centre would.

Just a side note, Mikko Rantanen (drafted 2015) is scoring at a 1,3 PPG rate. Nylander is scoring at a 1,36 PPG rate.

MR - 09pts in 8gp
WN - 19pts in 14gp

That's a little more significant than just posting their PPG this early in the season

Do you realize Nylander is playing without his wingers since both are injured? Losing Brown especially hurts...

Still very impressive #s from Rantanen. He should be in the NHL imo, he looked fine on the Avs

Why do you keep saying this about his wingers? Kapanen and Brown weren't even being used on the wing with Nylander before their injuries. Maybe for a bit at the start of the year but not recently. His most common winger is Josh Leivo, a very good AHL player. He's also had Richard Panik, who should be an NHL player, on his line. If he was playing with some complete plugs with no offensive ability, then sure you could use that argument, but he's not.

Nylander has a predetermined 1000pt pro career (AHL/NHL)
Are we wasting away these points by keeping him in the AHL?

I.e
1000 - 51 = 949

:sarcasm:

gotta make sure there are as few points as possible left for him once he bolts as a UFA. We gotta lose one to make up for when we have Stamkos no? It's only fair :sarcasm:
