At least he looks to be in his way to being more than just a 3rd line grinder, as was suggested at the draft by B. Gretzky.

Well, third liners can be pretty damn good these days, but yeah, he can skate, stickhandle, pass, and has a good size to him. If he ends up as a bottom sixer it will be as one who can score a bit.

What I'm not sure about is his defensive skills. Not that they are bad, but he might have to learn more there than he does with his offensive skills. This is pretty common with players coming from just about anywhere but the SHL.

When he was drafted the reason the were calling him a 3rd liner is because he was defensively sound, just lacking scoring touch.

2 goals so far tonight.

The kid is a beast. The announcers made a comment that he would go 15 spots higher if there was a re-draft. Do you agree?

ive never seen him play but ive also heard that he would go wayyyyy higher in a redraft too

I see another impressive Bruins prospect Anders Bjork had 2 goals tonight too

He's good but not 15 spots higher good.

Matthews, Laine, Dubois, Puljujarvi, Juolevi, Tkachuk, Keller, Nylander, Jost, Brown, Bean, McAvoy, Kunin and Chychrun all definitely stay above him IMO. That's 14 right there and Steel jumps him and a couple other players drafted higher and lower than him are around the same level.

Brown and Steel are up for reasonable debate.

Wild fans will be mad at me, but it's not a no brainer to me that Kunin is better. I could see Frederic being a better pro due to his skating and all round game. Kunin has a very good shot, an ability to score, and good hockey sense, but his skating worries me.

Ranked #34 in the DraftBuzz Draft Guide. Was one of the few scouts who fought the Draft Day hate/debacle on this kid hard - knew he was worth that pick and Gretzky did a horrible job of describing him at the time.

SCOUTING REPORT

TRENT FREDERIC is a guarantee to be some team’s dream selection as a rugged, big, two- way centerman that is multi dimensional and underappreciated offensively. He’s going to go higher than consensus, and it will be justified. Since the beginning of the year, Frederic has been sharpening each individual tool so that they came together really nicely by the U18. With long powerful strides that accumulate, Frederic can gear up through the neutral zone with steam and does a great job of handling the puck at top speed. His hands are pretty deft, allowing him to deke and wow, and he can really rip the puck without notice. He’s a forceful body checker and gets his way in the NHL areas of the ice because he’s such a physical player. It’s a real sight to see Frederic swoop back into the zone down the middle of the ice, as he radiates support and ability to assist in making the stop. Statistically, Frederic increased his P TS/GP production 164% from .25PTS/GP with U17 last year to .66PTS/GP with U18 this year, and looks to extend his growth past the draft. It’s not out of the question that Frederic finds himself in the 2C role next year with Wisconsin. Final food for thought: if you subtract some of the out of control flailing around from a guy like McLeod, you’re left with a complete C like Frederic who might have better puck ability and has the same 3C floor and 2C ceiling.

2 more goals and haven't started the second period. 14-16-30 in 22 games now. Could be looking at an elite prospect.

if he is going to turn into something Boston doesn't deserve him after the "fans" basically threw him away after he was drafted

Geez, the team only used a 1st round pick on the guy. What a terrible way to treat a guy...sure the fans might not have been on board but they aren't draft experts. Nobody knew who this guy was, and a lot of us fans seem to be embracing him now. Doesn't seem too bad treatment to me.

The fans said to wait and see. The 'experts' on HF from other fanbases mocked Sweeney again.

If a redraft were held today, I'm not sure the Bruins would even get a chance to select McAvoy or Frederic by the 15th pick. The scouting dept has really turned around.

There is such a thing as "dumb-luck"...

[Frederic] is not going to be a top-two-line guy, we know that,” Bruins director of amateur scouting Keith Gretzky told reporters at the draft, according to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald. “But he has some jam. He plays hard with the penalty minutes. We were fortunate to get him.

I think people had a bigger problem with what Boston said about Frederic after selecting him than the actual pick itself.

Clearly Gretzky wasn't on board with the Bruins decision to draft frederic and he shortly thereafter left the team. His comments seemed less surprising after that happened. He may have felt that way but the team likely did not
