Ranked #34 in the DraftBuzz Draft Guide. Was one of the few scouts who fought the Draft Day hate/debacle on this kid hard - knew he was worth that pick and Gretzky did a horrible job of describing him at the time.

SCOUTING REPORT

Nice scouting as this is pretty much proven out at Wisconsin so far. Almost seems like you weren't optimistic enough with him having secured the 1C role there. :)

That's not really true. Many Bruins fans were livid with this pick and Sweeney and even more so after Gretzky's description of his upside.

I was pissed at where the player was picked, not the player.

Sweeney has shown to not really care for the "rankings" at times, but needless to say not many Bruins fans are upset at this point.

gotta say that Trent Frederic doesn't sound like a hockey name haha... sounds more doctor ish.....

Dr Trent Frederic.... ya that sounds better!!!

Very curious what the chances he does... I havent seen him play much but he seems to be quite the impressive prospect.

Does he look NHL ready?

Well, he looks as ready as Kunin does, if not more so. I think he is a better skater than Kunin. He has the size, speed, skill. He looks pretty strong also...he shouldn't have a problem there. So, at this point it's really about whether he has the intangibles such as desire, IQ, and mental toughness. I don't see any alarm bells in any of those areas, but ya never know how someone will transition.

I wouldn't bet against him being a middle six player for the B's in about two years.

If he explodes in camp and pre-season then he gets a shot. There is a slight possibility Spooner is left unprotected in the expansion. Shouldn't but there are tough decesions for every team to make.

Sweeney spent a long time in player development and Providence, so my guess would be AHL first for Frederic. 2015 and 2016 Bruins draft picks will fighting for spots this September. I don't Hayes and Beleskey will be back next season.

Well first they have to sign him for him to attend camp and any preseason games. Have not heard he is ready to leave school yet, maybe I missed that somewhere.

It wouldn't hurt him to do another year under Granato at UW, but I do think he could make the jump next year.

Intriguing player. Size and skill. Likes to hit. Also a pretty good skater for a big guy. Caught my eye at WJC. Could be a steal by B's in the McAvoy draft. Sounds like a prototypical Bruin.

Was a massive reach and could have been drafted later, but I liked the pick. He is however doing decent in the AHL. Not bad, not great either

Just checked up on him the other day stats wise. How's he progressing? Is it possible he gets called up to the big club later this year?

Frederic was sidelined earlier this season owing to a concussion, but it sounds like he's back in form. Apparently, he's done very well in the AHL, and Boston probably has him as an untouchable prospect at this point. There is a chance that he sees some action in Boston towards the end of the season, but it would not surprise me to see him make the club out of camp next year.

Cameron Hughes is probably the first former badger to see a call up with Boston this year.... He's been awesome all season..... Frederic probably needed another year in college....

NHL debut last night and had the crowd going bananas with his fight VS Brandon Tanev.
Poor Tanev. The kid is a f***ing monster.

I liked the pick for Boston a lot. When you’re a team set to be competitive, and picking late due to success, you shouldn’t be gambling on potential, but taking guys you know can add good energetic depth within a couple of years.
