As a note - the goal stood, he picked up the assist. It's a testy game with IF Bjorkloven. Yes. That is their name.
Björklöven=Birch leaves. Team is evil just based on the name but they are also out to get good players on other teams. Especially mean towards younger guys. During playoffs they go berserk.

It's the team I hate most of all in Sweden. Tempted to ring bark all their beloved trees...

Bjork means "Birch" in Swedish I re-learned today.

Feels like being birched when he is in the lineup.

As for Ostlund, he's growing in D+1 in a way that some of their other high-end prospects have over the years. It's exciting to see.
He's certainly making Adams and co look sharp for going Ostlund over Lekkiermakki and Kemell.

Kemell I’m not surprised about. He was a frustrating player to figure out going into the draft for me. Lekkerimaki is more surprising because I liked where he got his shots from and didnt expect him to struggle as much as he did. and now he’s got a long term injury in a key development year on top of it.

I'm also an idiot. Lekkiermakki was 15th, so we never had a shot anyways. Vancouver did the lord's work.

Yurov is who I was thinking of. He's been so-so, back in the MHL.

He's a little cannonball out there today.

Edit for the sequence:

Takes the puck to the net at full speed, winding up drawing a penalty, then goes out on PP1 and is in the scrum after an early whistle despite still wearing the fishbowl for his jaw injury.

Ostlund is my favorite prospect right now and I wish it was easier to watch him, but I appreciate all the updates. He's got a long way to go, but I've just got a feeling about him... When I've seen him play, I see Aho or Krejci upside there. Super smart, slick, mobile, playmaking 2-way center.

Re: the Krebs comparison. Similar size and agility, but Krebs to me is more of a heart guy than a head guy. Sure, he can find some nice passes, but he's not controlling the game with the puck on his stick and opening things up. He's more of a pest with some skill who can pressure opponents with speed and tenacity, which can also be a good profile for a 3c, but different than I see Ostlund.

Ostlund (if he reaches his peak of course) is more like a savvy play driving 3C who's always in the right place, anticipates whatever you're trying to do against him, and can cut you open with his puck carrying and passing ability. Has also flashed a nasty wrist shot.

I look forward to watching him develop over the next few years and I will be bummed if he never pans out.

Okay... goalie goal! Ostlund's teammate, today's starter Carl Lindbom just scored into an empty net. Hopefully there is a clip up soon.

He drew a penalty, played well but didn't find the scoresheet today. My only mild complaint would be 0-for-5 at the dot, but for someone wearing a full shield and dealing with injury to his mug, I'm still amazed at how he gets stuck in.

The goal -

Good analysis on Ostlund, I’ve thought much of the same. His shot is really deceptive and I think his combination of shiftiness and elite hands will really impress people when he’s watched more.

The Aho comp is one I’ve been thinking of for awhile, although as of right now he isn’t lighting up the Allsvenskan at the level Aho did in the Liiga his D+1 season.

Long term I think he could be an elite 3C and power play contributor. Perfect compliment to Tage and Cozens. Like the idea of a Krebs-Ostlund-Kulich/Rosen 3rd line if they all work out.

I see Saku Koivu when I watch him play his peers. *shrug*

That's the name that comes to mind for me most frequently as well. I honestly might rather see Savoie traded than Ostlund. Savoie seems more of the same, whereas Ostlund looks like he has that Koivu well-roundedness to him

There is a level of determination in Savoie and Ostlund and Kulich that they will need to build the middle of their lineup in the next few years. I'm game to fire off picks...many of them... to fix some of what is wrong with the roster. I'd rather they not move high-effort, center lane guys.
