Impressive to stay alive against the dirtiest team in swedish hockey.

It's unreal. 7 out of the 8 last situations that has gone through to the leagues players safety board in the playoffs has been about Björklöven players.

They have been doing this for years. They essentially spend the first two games of every series hurting players. That's how they beat Modo last year.

Are we expecting him to join Rosen in Rochester next year?

Not sure honestly. He has an SHL out on his deal, but that could also mean he stays with DIF if he helps propel them back into the SHL by winning the Allsvenskan playoffs. Or he could go to another SHL team for the year.

I've been impressed with his fortitude after getting smashed in the face to come back with the full visor on and still get stuck in while wearing the fishbowl. He's out of the full mask now and had a couple of other dents over the year (one at the start of the playoffs, another right before the u20's) but didn't lose his spot up in the lineup even with being dinged. His play didn't flag.

And he as I type that, his line comes close on a breakaway (Nilsson) that is stopped.

It’s been gone over before, but it’s a tossup. Djurgarden could be promoted so Ostlund would probably get a top six role on a decent SHL team, which would both be beneficial to his development, and probably a personal desire of his. On the other hand, Isak Rosen has had a nice developmental year in Rochester, so some think the Sabres would like Ostlund over here. However, the counter argument is that Rosen’s development was being harmed in HIS situation in Leksands, getting low single digits in ice time, and bouncing around with loans. If I had to put money on it, I’d say he stays in Sweden one more year, but I wouldn’t be shocked either way.

This makes sense. Admittingly I dont follow Swedish League so I'm more inclined to want him getting top 6 forward minutes in Sweden

Good post

I think see how the season plays out in Sweden. If Djurgarden is not promoted, then leave him in Sweden. If Djurgarden is promoted, talk to the coaching staff there about his role and ice time. Then make a decision.

No matter what, there's no need to rush him.

If they move up, he's going to be a big part of the reason why. He's been either first line on Kruger's wing early on or handling the center at 2nd line as the season has gone on. He's on the top PP and the DIF staff isn't shy to give him plenty of minutes (over 22 in his first game back with the big club in a game that went to OT). It wouldn't be a surprise if he's still getting a fair chunk of time if they were to advance.

It's also kind of cool to see that Lekkerimaki and Ohgren are now on Marcus Kruger's wings as the top line. That trio, while not playing together, have all had growth.

Tight checking game against MoDo today, 1-1 late in the third. He's been active though he did pick up a penalty early in the third.

DIF is up 1-0 after 2. He didn't have a hand in the goal. I may watch the 3rd and have an afternoon coffee.

Lekkerimaki scores early in the 3rd (he's playing with Kruger on L1), 2-0 DIF now.

Edit 2 - MoDo ties it with 1:38 left in the game, 2-2. I have been working on some things and only half-watching but I have not seen nor heard our lad today. Since the Allsvenskan website doesn't load the roster for the game for me, I don't know if he's out or just they shortened the bench and I've missed him.

Okay, he's out there in OT. *whew*

Edit: DIF wins it in OT to even their series at 1 game each. Didn't see the first two periods, literally only noticed him the one shift in OT.

I feel like he is a forgotten asset that many sabres fans throw into trades just as much as Rosen. I really like his game and could turn out to be better than Kulich and Savoie. The only thing that worries me is we have too many undersized prospects and this team already gets bullied. That being said skilled 2-way forwards have had good success in the NHL when they come over to play. Watching the highlights his speed and ability to handle the puck without slowing down is fun to watch.

He had a great development curve this year and looking forward to following him next year.

I definitely don't want to trade Ostlund. My hope is that eventually when Skinner's contract is up, Mittelstadt moves up to top line LW and Ostlund is ready to be 3C. Maybe Rosen turns out well enough to replace Skinner and Mittelstadt or somebody else becomes expendable.

The only significant prospects I'm willing to trade for now are Rosen and below...and a couple of these Russians might end up better than expendable as well. I'm not throwing Ostlund into any hypotheticals though.

Have I mentioned how on low quality streams, it's hard for me to tell the DIF numbers apart on their home blues? Jeez, I'm feeling old.

How is he looking? I'm tempted to go watch him but Djurgården is my most hated team (except for the one I refuse to even consider a team).
