Trading the capital for a small town (about 30 k citizens). Great hockey environment. Will need to take huge steps to take a top 6 role next year.

Not only that, going to one of the regular recent powers of the SHL. There should be very high expectations there.

In NA to practice with Rochester, sounds like games is not completely out of the picture neither

I imagine he's spending the week at KBC - getting checked up, watching some film/reviewing his year, getting a few workouts in. Then he'll go watch game 5 in Cuse and if Rochester moves on, he'll link up with them for whatever level of activity they deem appropriate.

He's young. Let him stay in Sweden another year.
This wouldn't be the end of the world, but I disagree. Get him to Rochester where he can play in a competitive environment with the other kids and start to build that winning culture together. An extra year to get acclimated to NA, play in a quality league with a mix of young and older, be in an organization that is very invested in his development, and has a good track record for developing players. It's not going to hurt him to stay in Sweden another year (probably), but I don't see much downside to bringing him over now.

I’d prefer him to be in Rochester next year but not enough to make him not do what he wants to. He’ll be in Rochester in 24-25 either way. Do whatever you want this year. I just think he’ll be better off in the AHL in 24-25 if he’s already acclimated to it next year. But, again…whatever he wants is fine next year.

If this guy (and Novikov) come over then Rochester is going to be must watch on a consistent basis
I'm happy Pegula owns the Amerks so they don't pull a Chicago Wolves. They could have a TON of prospects in Roch next year if Neuchev, Novikov and Ostlund come over. Have to think Nadeau could be there next year also, and with Kulich, Rosen, Kisakov and Kozak already there that's a young team. Not even counting guys like Rousek, Cederqvist etc.

One bonus for getting him over to Rochester soon is he gets to build chemistry with other prospects and get comfortable in the room

The downside to him staying in Sweden is he doesn't get the benefits I listed for Rochester.

In Sweden, he doesn't get to compete with his Sabres brothers. He doesn't play for a team that cares just as much about his development as winning. He doesn't get acclimated to the place he'll eventually need to get acclimated to. He doesn't get access to the resources and amenities of an NHL team.

The upside to staying in Sweden is what? Comfort? More people that speak his primary language? Salted fish?

Kidding aside, what does he get in Sweden that he doesn't get in Rochester? An extra year before his ELC starts is the only thing I can think of, and it's not like his second contract will be expensive.

Maybe I'm just being selfish, because I definitely want him to play where I can easily watch.

The only thing I can think of, and I'm not even sure it's happening, is time on the top 2 lines and maybe powerplay time.

Others that know more about the roster in Rochester can chime in and let me know if a top 6 role is reasonable to expect for him next season if he came over? Or if he would be expected to get top 6 and power play minutes in the SHL next season?

Sweden let's him further develop his offensive skills as there's more space. Rochester will have him at least initially focus on defensive responsibilities
I think it's the other way around 😹

You essentially get 0 ice time with defensive issues. SHL is a league where you can't give players ice time to develop since they will leave in 1-2 years anyway and a bad season can destroy the team forever. I'd say number 1 reason to get him to Rochester is to give him a top 6 role and pp-time.

Statistically, he had a good season? Where will he play next season in the SHL or the AHL?

To me, I think the FO likes to keep challenging prospects and also prefers them under their supervision and support. I know on these boards it can be perceived as rushing sometimes.

I have no problem with Ostlund coming over to ROC. It should get him started to get acclimated to the NA game, teammates, coaching...

I think they'll bring him to Rochester if he's ok with that.
