On the Sabres draft embedded episode Kevyn Adams talked about how Anders Forsberg’s (our Swedish scout) only concern about him is his size.

A year later, I agree with that sentiment. In my limited viewings (mostly WJC) of him, I think if he adds 15-20 pounds he’s a solid NHL middle six center all day. If he has a tough time adding muscle for whatever reason, he might not be an NHL regular.

Side note: I actually met Noah Ostlund in Buffalo at HarborCenter before the rookie camp (I was there for a post-wedding brunch, he was checking into the hotel). I even grabbed a picture with him. Incredibly nice and polite, but did seem slight.

Sounds like most 17/18 year olds.

Must be a different experience - my kids' friends are some polite, congenial, helpful folks I've ever known. It makes me feel better about the future of humanity knowing them.

The current gen Z'ers are, by and large, some of the most compassionate people I've ever met. If anyone is going to save us as a species, it's them.

One of my faves in that draft. The goalie pick in the 2nd had me pulling my hair out.

I'm hoping he comes around once he loses some baby fat. Top ranked Euro goalie iirc?
I thought he was the highest rated goalie in the draft, in a poor goalie year. Even the high 2nd was a bit of a reach but it's tough to call out the staff when they've had so many hits. This is all from memory so I may be completely off target.

We talk about it as a reach and yet there was reporting at the time that other teams were looking at him in the 2nd round as well which was part of what pushed them to make the selection when they did.

They were, I believe, talking about Leinonen, the goalie they took in the 2nd round.

Precisely. And I don't think Leinonen was really a reach based on the commentary about demand.

Ostlund's selection was fine. I think Leinonen's location was as well, he just didn't have a good D+1 season.

There was way too much talent on the board to be filling a need at goalie prospect last year in round 2. Where my BPA people at?

The team needs a potential elite two-way center more than it needs another scoring winger or a slick playmaker.
You want our 3C to make 7m+? We do not need centers, at all. Thompson, Cozens, Mitts, Krebs.....Savoie Kulich also technically centers. I do agree we don't really need either of those two things but we do however need lots of money for Dahlin extension (10) Power (6-8) top 4D (4+) two goalies worth something lets say solid backup (3m) Levi becomes good (6m). I would argue Ostlund is our best expendable asset.
