I think the criticism that Rossi's size will limit his overall ceiling or his potential to play center in the NHL is valid. I don't find his size to be the deal breaker that others seem to, but I get why it scares people off.

I think the criticism about his straight-line speed is valid. I think he'll improve that, but I get why it scares people.

I think the criticism that Rossi is "maxed out physically" is really, really speculative. For how frequently that point comes up, I haven't heard anyone flesh out the argument as to why Rossi has less room to develop than any other prospect in this draft.

Rossi blue-line to blue-line this year was consistently as fast as Stutzle. If there’s anything to pick on in his skating, it’s that his 1st few steps aren’t always super smooth.

He certainly wasn’t. One's skating is among the best in the draft class, the others is average/above average. Rossi’s edges and agility is fantastic, his speed and acceleration is not.

a lot like Perfetti that way. Both will improve. Both have enough speed and acceleration to start out with. Both have excellent heads for the game to compensate

Interesting that this thread has turned into the exact opposite of Byfield's. Despite not playing in months, Rossi seems to have built hype while Byfield's hype seems to have fallen among fans.

far too low on Rossi imo. Not sure what else he could do
I guess I went for the bait

No bait at all, just my perspective. I had Rossi ahead of Quinn up until I watched too much film on Quinn, once the recency bias fades a bit Im sure Rossi will be my 8th pick again. I was really low of Holtz for much of the season too, I had Rossi ahead of him until about a month ago.

Yes Rossi the best playmaking center, best puck protection player, best faceoff center in the draft and best defensive center prospect will not play center. Makes sense.

Apparently, he becomes a legit 1C.

But if he's 5'9.99999, he's got no chance.
and at the same time he argues that 5'10 Perfetti could be a C. Now what league would that happen in?

Love Perfetti but there is no chance his skating / style allows him to be an NHL 1C, 2C, any C.

If Rossi has to move to the wing so be it.. but he definitely has a chance to play 1C or 2C. A 2C could be the 3rd best forward on a good team. Oh you don't pick a 2C or a winger at 4 or 5... right
Rossi belongs in the fight for one of those draft spots particularly if the other options are Raymond and Perfetti... You want a D .. well that's another story.

Yanni Gourde has not been able to keep it up. He’s been horrible and Tampa fans want to dump him. Johnson because of his size has taken a beating and is also a shell of what he was. Not good examples.
Fair point, but they were able to play center in the NHL, and Rossi is a far better prospect than they were at his age, so I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he could be the exception to the supposed 5’10” rule.

I think its been touched on a lot but people who dont like the take kinda gloss over it a bit. For starters, hes one of the oldest players in the draft. On top of that its widely reported that he has had professional training habits for years that a lot of other juniors dont. You see that kind of talk every year at the combine about players. Testing at the top in the VO2 max or other things like thatisnt necessarily a good thing because it means you have less room to improve overall. There wasnt a combine this year but I'm sure Rossi would've tested high in a lot of things.

And the final reason why people believe this is that its been said by scouts. He seems like a what you see is what you get type of player because hes closer to a finished product. These scouts know what these guys do to work out, and hell they know which kids hit puberty at 8 years old and were shaving in grade 5. It sounds from a lot of reports that Rossi is one of those kids thats pretty far along in his development.

He could still be a really good player and should be a top 7 pick I think for sure but it seems pretty silly to me to not question if he has less development left in him
