C/LW Cole Perfetti - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2020, 10th, WPG)

I’d actually be shocked if Perfetti ended up a center. I agree Raymond is more skilled but Perfetti plays a smarter game.
I think his hockey sense will allow him to pull it off. It probably comes down the to team that drafts him, but he seems to be doing alright at C in Saginaw. Not sure if he’s really being utilized as a center but he’s always listed as ok on the lineup card.

Remember when some were freaking out over his lack of goal scoring at the start of the season? It was clear the goals were going to come. Kid’s hands, vision, and release are just too good.

I can't see it. If you are undersized at center in the NHL, you better be a damn good skater or the very least above-average playing with a ton of compete. Cole doesn't have that going for him. His game is sort of the middle-ground between Marner and Skinner but with worse skating than both. I hope he makes it, but I do think if you are drafting him, your focus should be on him being a winger. There's a reason why when at Hlinka and around other good players they moved him out wide despite him being top 3 on the team skills and talent-wise.

Can someone tell me a little more about this guy? I keep seeing him in the top 5 in mock drafts and I have no idea what his strengths are that make him a supposed special player.

He sounds like he's going to be a good 1. Lots of great talent in the draft this year, going to be interesting to see where everyone ends up.

Already done. Was wondering more.
He’s got an elite brain. He’s up there as the best pure sniper in the draft. I would say it’s between him and Holtz. He’s also an underrated playmaker, as can be seen by his stats this year, but I don’t think he’s going to be a guy that gets a lot of pretty assist where he basically scores off the other player’s stick like some of the more traditional playmakers. He creates opportunities for his teammates because his brain is so elite. His hands and shot allow him to make creative plays around the net that don’t alway end with him being the beneficiary, but his teammates are sometimes also able to capitalize. He really does have an intriguing toolkit. I’ve watched him a few times on TV and seen a few shift-by-shifts online. I see the Skills to be a Center in the NHL, but those who’ve watched him more than me insist he’s a winger, so I’ll defer to them for that.

I think the talk around Cole Perfetti has cooled down but he IS having a strong season nevertheless.
8 goals, 14 assists in his on going 10 game point streak = 23 goals, 44 assists, 67 points in 39 games (1.72 ppg).

Interesting. I've always thought of him as more a playmaker than a sniper. To me, his passing and vision seem to be bigger strengths than his shot.

I haven't watched too much of him though. Anyone else have any input?

Yep. That's how I've always seen him too. He is a great goal scorer but his vision is better. He'll draw two defenders to himself because of his ability to score and then find the open man for the easy tap in. It's like a read option. If he gets double teamed he finds a teammate to finish and if he's one on one, he'll take it himself. Really tough to defend.

1.75 points per game. That type of production from a draft eligible puts him in a realistic conversation to get an NHL look next year. I’m not saying he’ll play in the show next year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever drafts him gives him a 9 game trial.

His numbers will start to get even better as he gets used to Suzuki at C between Coskey and himself. A player with excellent vision and a very accurate shot. His speed will get better as he matures. I see him as a LW this year and the future.
