C/LW Cole Perfetti - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2020, 10th, WPG)

He's shown quite a bit more at the junior level for sure, though Thomas is a great young NHLer

Perfetti is at 24 goals and 51 assists in 43 games as a 17 year old

Thomas had 24 goals and 51 assists in 49 games as an 18 year old.

Im aware I’m not talking about their pure stats, I’m aware he’s ahead at the same age hence why he’s arguably top 10 vs Thomas who went 20th.

I was just saying I see the same “Translatable” vision/playmaking abilities in Perfetti that I saw in Thomas his draft year (and have continued to see into his pro career)
I’m super high on Thomas, I think he has elite playmaking abilities and will be a legit top center in the league as he continues to grow and physically mature..... I see the same ability in perfetti(I haven’t personally watched him enough to say I for sure put him above or below Thomas) and I’m not sure if he projects as a C or W at the pro level, I’m guessing W in a similiar fashion as a Gaudreau if everything pans out correctly

I assumed that.

I just don't see that in Thomas, while I do in Perfetti.

I can understand the player traits from which you are drawing this statement, and I agree, but I’d like to point out that to this point there has been no evidence that Perfetti will not be an effective player on 5v5. Yes, he’s not the best skater or particularly big. But neither is a guy like Patrick Kane, who I think he is very similar to.

Watching the CHL, there have been smaller and not particularly fast players that you could tell, even as they put up numbers, would struggle or have to adapt in the NHL. I haven’t seen that with this kid.

This is a hedge more than anything. His IQ/Skill combo is so unquestionably great, that i'm not particularly worried that he'll adapt the rest of his game.

Shit, i'd take him at 3. He's such a sure thing.

First 10+ games he had like no goals,... 1 goal in 10 games, 5 in 19 games.

But now, he is closing in 30 goal mark, real fast. He has been almost goal per game since November 11th.
However, all the goals, Cole has 30 assists in that time period.....

What has he been playing at more this season, Center or Wing?
LW with Suzuki and Coskey for the most part. He makes all the players around him better and his size not something he can change but improve his skating and 200 ft game are things that will improve as he develops.
As far as where he is drafted anywhere from 3 to 12 range and again no control over that. Being a Spirit fan, he is extremely gifted offensively and having Suzuki will help him as he gets ready for the next step.

4 primary assists and a 1 secondary.... i thought he was a goal scorer...lol
I think he will double his assist total from last season, about 10 assists away for doing so.

That's what everyone said going into this season because that's what every talking head repeated.

He's going to make some mediocre 15 goal scorer in a 30/35 goal guy and earn them a contract a GM will later regret some day.

He reminds me so much of Nick Suzuki. Borderline top-5 pick for me right now.

This is what I've been saying, but I think we have to account for the fact that Suzuki now looks like he's going to be able to play the middle of the ice. I don't think that Perfetti will be able to do that. He's played his whole junior career at winger. He's only played center internationally for Canada. The skating and compete level also isn't yet at the level where I think any team would want to put him in the middle of the ice.

I think Suzuki is somewhere between 6-10 in a 2017 re-draft, and Perfetti will be somewhere between 6-10 in the 2020 draft. But as of now, I'd say Suzuki is looking like the better long-term player due to positional value, although I think Perfetti might have slightly higher offensive potential.

I think he'll likely end up a winger at the NHL-level too, but what do you mean by your comment on his compete level? From what I can tell, his compete level seems very good.

I think it can improve. He’s not yet a star defensive player. Suzuki is. Perfetti will probably improve defensively, but right now I don’t think he’s a particularly good defensive player.
