C/LW Cole Perfetti - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2020, 10th, WPG)

Compete is not the issue. He sits back calculating, using his brain. He back checks hard when he has to and is good in his own end winning battles and being in good position to support. I think the fact that he doesn't go a million miles an hour people misconstrue that as lower compete but he likes to let his line mates forecheck and then sits back and anticipates where puck is going to steal or pick off passes which he is very good at. His will to win is very high.

Lastly, though plus minus is a flawed stat he led his team last year as a rookie and again this year he leads his team by a large margin and is now being used on the penalty kill and at the end of periods and games to defend a lead. That is not a liability.

NHL Draft prospects: No. 3 Jonathan Drouin - Sportsnet.ca

his draft scouting report, no one mentioned the IQ as a top quality...im from Halifax and still live here, I was here for the whole big hype train with Drouin and Mackinnon...you could see watching him on the ice his talent was higher than his IQ...though his IQ was not in question either as he had decent IQ but was far from his best attribute.

go look at his draft video, I could care less about what a random scouting report on the internet says about him, Actual scouts employed by NHL teams considered him to have the top hockey IQ
well ill tell you right now I scouted for over 10 years...I retired this year, i watched Drouin in probably 40 games and in no way did i see the best IQ for the draft in him, he is not stupide on the ice, he had decent hockey sense but his skills where 10 times what his sense was...so these NHL scouts that are actually employed well it is an old boys game for the scouts...most are there for who they know, few are their for there skills but each team has one or two good scouts...so to hear an NHL scout says this about a player means nothing to me at all...all they are is an educated opinion no better than most. Drouin had excellent IQ but like I said his IQ was not compared to his skill level.

Never been a scout but Drouin always impressed me with his raw skill but never with his hockey IQ or sense.

Perfetti is at 110 pts with 6 games left. Realistically he gets 40+ goals and around 120 pts. The PP is starting to get better with Wilde on the point, Coskey, Giroux, Suzuki and Perfetti.

Despite being Austrian I still like Perfetti better than Rossi.
Despite being Canadian I still prefer Rossi. :)

Both are great players, but I think Rossi is better defensively, a better skater, and is more likely to be a center.

He looks like Nick Suzuki when I watch him I see Suzuki
Yep, I've made this comparison a number of times. I think its very accurate.

he got his way of slowing down the play. And what's funny, the main point fans and scouts were having about Suzuki was his "lack of effort" because he slows the plays and like to be cerebral while trying to find a lane to pass. Add to this incredible hands and release and you have incredibly similar players.

Really similar player, but IMO Perfetti can unlock an other level over Suzuki if he makes an impact in the NHL.

The numbers this year, especially in the OHL, are insane.

When was the last time there were two guys (Perfetti/Rossi) putting up ~120pts and neither may end up being picked in the top 5?

The last two that I remember scoring 120+ in their draft year were McDavid, Strome and Marner (who all went top 5 though in the same draft) Would be pretty crazy to see that for sure.

Best I can tell, In the OHL at least, the last time that happened was 2002/03 and it was one player. Corey Locke put up 151 pts that season and was a 4th round pick. Being a first time draft eligible and putting up 120 pts has only happened with Patrick Kane, Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner, and Dylan Strome in the post 04/05 lockout era. 4 guys in 15 years and 3 in one draft. 3 of them are superstars and one is turning into a solid forward.

It’s shaping up to be one hell of a draft. Ottawa really “lucked” out by having two top 10picks in this draft.

As much as I hate the new lottery odds as a Wings fan, I can at least take solace in the fact that we can’t drop to more than 4th and will have one of Byfield/Stultze/Drysdale/Raymond/Perfetti/Rossi

Of course, still hoping everyday for Lafreniere

I remember being a Belleville Bulls season ticketholder and he was terrifying to play against. Him and Foy with Brendan Bell on D.

That duo was just weirdly monstrous.

Locke 151 points, Foy 132 points but then 3 next 67's forwards: Scott Sheppard 75 points, Matthew Albiani 40 points, Sean Scully 33 points.
And goals: Locke 63, Foy 61, Sheppard 31, Albiani 19, Akeson 15, Scully 14.
