C/LW Cole Perfetti - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2020, 10th, WPG)

I really don’t think he’s that far off Byfield. He won’t go 2nd, but won’t be surprised if he ends up the better NHL player

I think Perfetti is good but I would not put him on the level of Byfield. My guess is he goes in the 7-12 range and there will be 3 OHL picks before him in Byfield, Drysdale and Rossi.

I can see Drysdale and Byfield (especially Byfield) but I’m not sold on Rossi. I think a huge part of his production is the team he’s on. Not that he’s a bad prospect, just not on the level of the other 3.

Perfetti just has a game to me that’s perfect for today’s NHL. Built on IQ and quick hands.

It's a strong draft but I wouldn't pass up that offence in the top 5. Worst case scenario: he struggles 5 on 5, and he's a dynamo on the powerplay.

I can understand the player traits from which you are drawing this statement, and I agree, but I’d like to point out that to this point there has been no evidence that Perfetti will not be an effective player on 5v5. Yes, he’s not the best skater or particularly big. But neither is a guy like Patrick Kane, who I think he is very similar to.

Watching the CHL, there have been smaller and not particularly fast players that you could tell, even as they put up numbers, would struggle or have to adapt in the NHL. I haven’t seen that with this kid.

Rossi already 18, almost a year older than most draftees. But he likely going to be hell of a player.

This is not an accurate statement. Rossi is not almost a year older than most draftees. In fact, there are usually more draftees on the older half of the age group than the younger half when the draft occurs. Factually, Rossi won’t be even 6 months older than a majority of draftees, including Perfetti, who is exactly 100 days younger than Rossi.

Élite players with high IQ and a lack of acceleration usually learn to take better angles when checking opponents if the mechanics don’t allow the early adjustment. I think 31 NHL teams would love to have this kind of offensive catalyst on their franchise.

Really upset you that people compared Byfield to Lafreniere eh.

Yea, but less IQ and slower hands IMO. He’s a year older, and playing on one of the better Junior Offensive Teams I’ve seen in a long time yet Perfetti is keeping up with him every step of the way.
Higher IQ and he is the one driving the bus on that team. Ironically they arent even as good as they were last year, way less depth. But keep pushing your agendas. There are many it appears.

Upset that Byfield isn’t considered on Lafreniere’s level never mind better than Laf like you’ve been pushing?

False, they’re pacing for 112pts this seasons if I remember, last season they had 106. Theyre also much more top heavy with more offensive weapons this season. Last season prior to trade period they had 4 PPG+ players. This season they have 6, 7 if you include Clarke’s small sample. It’s a hell of an offensive team that yet Rossi is the best of them, but Perfetti is keeping up with him despite playing on a worse team and having one less development year.

They play very similar games and you can’t really go wrong with either.

Worse competition this season in general in the league. Even the coaching staff didnt know if they had the depth to go for it a few short months ago. I watch the team on a regular basis youre absolutely clueless when it comes to this team or its players.

Go read my post history on the sens board unanimously have I said if they get first they should draft Lafrniere. Please stop saying things that are not true. Idnetifying that two prospects are elite is not pushing an agenda. Please dont suggest I stoop to your level. I have the ability to take the emotion out of it when evaluating these players. You should try it.

What do you accomplish by flip flopping on arguments depending on the player? I dont understand what you get out of it. Youre just contradicting yourself.

Contradicting how? I never once said Lafreniere has an “advantage” being a year later than Byfield/Perfetti. I’ve said Lafreniere is just simply a better hockey player. Which he undoubtedly is. You seem to have a major problem differentiating between someone saying a player is bad, and saying one is better than the other. I suggest some reading comprehension classes. You’re allowed to still think a player is a great prospect while also picking out some potential flaws in their game.

Man you just used it as an argument to put perfetti ahead of Rossi in this exact thread.... Then in Byfields thread its not a thing... Perfetti is not pacing with Rossi from a ppg perspective.

But you know who is producing at a similar ppg pace to Rossi... Lafreniere.... How does that make you feel?

(Disclaimer Laf is a much better prospect than Rossi just guaging this posters reaction)

I used it, along with many other points, as to why I see Perfetti as a better prospect than Rossi, but it’s close. Plenty of people agree.

I think Byfield and Drysdale are a slight tier ahead of both Rossi and Perfetti. When it comes to the two in question I like Perfetti's offensive game, but find Rossi is the more complete prospect. Rossi is always engaged and contributes in all areas of the ice. I also think his offensive game has come a long way this year; he possess the puck well, creates space and finds his teammates, and his shot has come along way!

Definitely agree Byfield/Drysdale are a slight tier higher. After 1st overall it’s kind of a crap shoot and it’s going to come down to team preference between Drysdale/Byfield/Stutzle and the another guess between Rossi/Perfetti/Raymond (with a small chance of Holtz/Askarov slipping in there).

Do you think any chance Drysdale could go way of a Ryan Murphy?

I would put Drysdale in a tier above what Murhpy was in junior. I will say I have a big love/hate relationship with Murphy as I am a season ticket holder for the Kitchener Rangers. I saw him play a lot of hockey and he always one of the most gifted offensive players on the ice. The issue was his defensive game had glaring holes and throughout his junior career those holes never got patched, plus his offensive talents were not enough to make up for his deficiencies when he turned pro. Drysdale has the offense, has the smarts, and the defense is alright but still a work in progress. I mean he barely needs to defend in junior because he is so good at keeping his team from being pinned. Any dump in behind his net, he is first there, and then fires a perfect break put pass with ease.

Speak the true! He will be 19 when camp breaks, born Sept /2001. Rossi is almost a year older than prospects like Byfield. It makes a difference.

Of course it makes a difference. I was just responding to a factually inaccurate statement that Rossi is almost a full year older than most draft prospects. That was incorrect. A majority of draft prospects are less than 6 months younger than Rossi.

Back to CP.

Creates offense in a similiar fashion to Robert Thomas. I’d say Perfetti has similiar high end playmaking upside like him. Love his vision, creativity and quick/shiftiness mixed with high end hands/puck control

He's shown quite a bit more at the junior level for sure, though Thomas is a great young NHLer

Perfetti is at 24 goals and 51 assists in 43 games as a 17 year old

Thomas had 24 goals and 51 assists in 49 games as an 18 year old.
