I agree that eichel is going to have more early season success than mcdavid. His game is catered for the nhl already

There is absolutely no question that McDavid is more talented than Eichel. There is question about who will be the more effective NHLer. I think the answer is still McDavid, but unlike the first question this one is legitimately arguable.

Yeah, like that wasn't taken into account. You don't think Eichel's game has been analyzed from every angle by now? You think someone who destroyed the NCAA as a freshman is going to have a hard time adjusting to the NHL due to the size of the rink?

Eichel is probably the first 18 year old I've seen play at the World Championship that didn't look like an 18 year old. He looked like a veteran out there. He's going to be scary once he gets NHL conditioning and NHL coaching.

The thing that stands out for me is his confidence with the puck at such a young age. There were countless times throughout the tournament when he could've made an easy pass or shirked responsibility, but instead he waited and looked for opportunities to do something out of the ordinary

Not only is he an elite talent, but he truly believes in his own ability too. A dangerous combination

Yup even in interviews, he doesn't seem awestruck by playing against Malkin , Ovechin and Kovalchuk, he believes he's just as good.

ridiculously mature player. It was difficult to keep his age in perspective because he wasn't making the usual mistakes a player that young should be making to remind you how young he is. His decision making and positioning were at an NHL level so he just kind of blended in. Similar to watching Ekblad.

Eichel's conditioning is already at an NHL level, he's known for being a gym rat. This was him at 16 years old:

Then, tack on another two years of training and conditioning at two very high class programs in the USNTDP and BU.

Ordering me a Sabres Eichel jersey once it's official. People will hate me where I live but I grew up in a town right next to where he's from so I have been following him for years.

I haven't seen an awful lot of Eichel, but what I have seen has been impressive.

He could very well have the better rookie season.

I was able to see him live in Ostrava against my NT and he is really something special. When I told my friends at the game (who are not following NHL closely) that he is only 18 years old, they couldn't believe it.

I've said this before, but he could be the most physically gifted prospect since Ovechkin. His combination of speed, strength, reach, shot, and hands will be among the top in the league the moment he steps on the ice.

I can't imagine what he will look like once he fills out a bit. He still has that teenage lankiness. He kind of reminds me of young Jagr before he got huge. That's the level of player we could be talking about.

Geez man. Hyping the kid up

How is McDavid's game not though? Because he's not as tall? I don't understand why there's this impression that McDavid's style of play doesn't lend itself well to the NHL. McDavid's biggest strengths are his ability to do everything at a breakneck speed and hockey IQ, and in my opinion those are two of the biggest hurdles to transitioning to the NHL game. And when I say doing things at a high pace I don't mean just skating, but everything that happens on the ice is quicker at the NHL level. There's less time and space in the NHL but I don't think that will be a problem with McDavid because he does everything at such a high speed already and he's so elusive.

Both prospects are going to be very good NHL players right off the hop. There are adjustment periods of course but these guys have the total package to be effective right away in terms of skills, smarts and athleticism.

I'd say the difference is that McDavid scores a lot of his goals off the rush which isn't nearly as easy to do against NHL quality competition where as Eichel looks to be more dangerous in the cycle game once the puck is already in the offensive zone. Being able to create offense from a grinding on the boards dump and chase game is more NHL style offense then off the rush imo. Not to say McDavid won't find a way to score and will most likely be the better player but looking at the style of game they play I can see why people think Eichel will adjust quicker, also he has man strength where McDavid is still filling out.

My bold prediction is that he gets a cup way before McDavid and is a better overall player then McDavid. I see him winning a cup in 3 years.
