I won't say who is better until they both play in the same league for a few years.

While Eichel may turn out to be better, it's pretty clear that McDavid is a better prospect. I've not seen a single disenting voice among professional scouts. In the last poll by McKenzie, all 10 NHL scouts have McDavid ahead. I can't remember the last time it was so unanimous. CSS, ISS, you name it. It seems that anyone who has actually seen them both live has McDavid ahead.

Having said that - I could see Eichel winning a cup first. I prefer the makeup of the Sabres team going forward more... unless Chia can actually make a few trades for d.

For sure, Buffalo would take McDavid if they had won the lottery. Buffalo fans are quite happy with what we got though. We haven't had a superstar at center since Pat Lafontaine.

I have said since day one McDavid will be the better player / best player in the league after 87,71,8 etc retire. But I also said Eichel will be right there with him as at worst the 2nd or 3rd best player. Both will win cups, harts and art rosses. McDavid will be a guy putting up 110-120 points a season and Eichel will be at 100-110. But as for the difference between them it's miniscule. Nothing even close to some of the proposals people have posted about swapping picks (like expecting Reinhart+ or Risto +. McDavid isn't even close to a franchise center or #1 stud D better then Eichel)

Prior to going to college Eichel spent two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. There he was coached by Don Granato, who still smiles when the topic shifts to Eichel's incredible skating stride through the neutral zone.

"Do you know how unbelievable that's going to be at the NHL level?" Granato said. "Within two years at the NHL level, he's going to be the most explosive guy in the League. What Jack's got will flourish even more at the next level.

"The team drafting him is going to love having him, period."

"Buffalo, I'm comin' for ya"

He was coached by Danton Cole not Don G

Granato coached Eichel while he was there.

Don Granato enters his fourth season as a head coach at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. He will lead the U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2014-15. Additionally, Granato will help guide the U.S. National Junior Team as an assistant coach at the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal, Canada.

Last winter, Granato guided the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a trio of international titles, claiming the top prize in the 2013 Four Nations Tournament in Prievidza, Slovakia, the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and the 2014 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Sundsvall, Sweden.

In 2012-13, Granato helped the U.S. National Under-18 Team capture first place at the 2012 Four Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., and led the team to a silver-medal performance at the 2013 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia. Granato also guided his team to an 11-6-4 (W-L-T) record against NCAA Division I and III schools, the best winning percentage (.619) against collegiate opponents in the history of the NTDP.

That same season, Granato served as an assistant coach at the inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo, N.Y.

Granato coached Eichel while he was there.

Granato ( 1995s ) DID NOT coach Eichel accept for u18 tournament in Sochi, Russia in 2013 ( which USA lost ) while Eichel played up and for a couple weeks prior to leaving for u18s.

Cole coached the 1996s for Eichels u17 and u18 year

So he coached him? ... I'm not even talking about "The Head Coach" of his time there.. Maybe you took that quote from the article as it saying he was the Head Coach or "main" coach. I took it as this guy Granato was a coach of Jack Eichels during his time at the US National Team and this is what he saw while being around him..

:dunno:

There hasn't been more of a certainty then there is with this draft seeing the following threads

Connor McDavid (2015,1st overall,Edmonton)

and

Jack Eichel (2015,2nd overall,Buffalo)

Was expecting more after all the fanboys were boasting about how he could do 25 pull ups and close grip bench 250 lbs. Looks like when proper form is enforced he's not that much stronger than his peers, I mean even the midget Mitch Marner did almost as many bench press reps.

You do understand that the bench press weight is relative to their respective body weight right. Eichel destroyed the combine.

2015 NHL Scouting Combine Test Results

Eichel
#1 force plate vertical
#1 pro agility right
#1 right hand grip
#2 bench press
#1 long jump
#1 aerobic fitness test duration

Kind of curious as to why the combines activities are more focused on upper body as opposed to lower body strength. Legs matter more as a hockey player than upper body. I wanted to see a 400 lb+ squat from Eichel. :shakehead

There are inherent dangers in posting without having the facts, apparently. I mean, Sam Bennett taught us that pull-ups = performance, right?
