From earlier today, Tim Murray on Eichel's Worlds performance:
When the Sabres pick second overall in the June draft, Jack Eichel will likely be the guy. Murray loved what he saw in World Championships, “I thought he was great, he looked a little tired one game, but expectations aren't extremely high for me because I know how young he is and where he’s coming from, but any glimmer of above average play let alone spectacular play, I get excited about and he was exciting, he was above and beyond.” Murray said he’s had two calls asking if he’ll move the pick and he told them they could make an offer, but he’s not moving out. In drafting Eichel he said, “That’s the easiest decision I’ll probably have in my General Manager career.”

As far as moving up in the draft, Murray said he hasn’t called Peter Chiarelli and he’s not going to call him.

On one hand I'm not looking forward to my team having to play against him for years to come, on the other hand I'm finally looking forward to the many games we play against the Sabres.

My bold prediction is that he gets a cup way before McDavid and is a better overall player then McDavid. I see him winning a cup in 3 years.

Anything is possible, but I think he got stuck with the wrong GM for that. A rookie GM with an attitude problem vs a guy who's won a cup already in a big market. One player can't carry a team all the way these days, not even a goalie,

Lol. The Tim Murray hate is as delicious as it is absurd

Btw...guy who tweeted sabres were livid clarified it wasn't Murray. So all we have now is the people who misinterpreted his comments at the lottery. He already dumbed those down for people. So all we have now is the willfull ignorant

One player? See: Reinhart, Kane, Bogo, Risto, Zadorov, Ennis, etc

Speaking of Eichel, Murray said drafting him will be the easiest decision he ever had to make in the interview. He also said he will not trade up or down, locked in!

:)

Soon...

That's just guys taken in round 1. And it isn't even all of them. Remember...Pysyk is so good that leaving him in the ahl was proof of the tank lol. And that Girgensons guy...he looks not too shabby already. Grigorenko still has potential.

Then the depth of prospects to see who makes it. Fasching, Baptiste, bailey, McCabe, compher, more high picks this year...

But yeah one guy.

I don't know. I think Chiarelli's handling of Boychuck and Seguin puts a lot of questions out there. I think those two trades sunk the Bruins franchise.

You're just throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it will stick at this point

With all the depth on center and D, is it fair to say another 1st line winger is the biggest need?

They'll be a scary team in a few years if they end up with Svechnikov at 21, IMO.

Yes, they could use another power forward with 1st line ability. They also can move Zemgus Girgensons to Right Wing and I expect that to happen at some point this year if Reinhart is ready. Girgensons can basically play anywhere. Center he is 2-way monster. At wing he is a power forward.

I think they need a goalie.

Or two goalies. They don't even have a back up right now. They could also use another top 6 RW and top 4 LHD.

It'll probably take them another year to get all the right pieces in place, and a little development for the all the young guys, but after that - Things should get exciting for us Sabres fans.

You think Tim Murray would draft a Russian? Oh boy.

We could use another goalie in the system but really what we need is a starter, so I wouldn't draft one high. Trading the 2nd's for a goalie ready to step out from being a back-up, like Lehner, Talbot, Jones, or whoever else makes more sense than drafting one and waiting X years to see how the crapshoot turns out.

In terms of draft needs, we do still need defensemen. At the NHL/AHL level we have Bogosian, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Pysyk, and McCabe as young players, but at the amateur level we only have two prospects: Brycen Martin and Anthony Florentino (NCAA, Providence). So most believe we should get at least one defensemen in the first 3 rounds.

Organizationally our three best wing prospects (Fasching, Baptiste, Bailey) are all RW. We could definitely use a high-octane winger on either side who could potentially be a 1st liner though I do feel good about our forwards long-term because of how good our center group is (especially with some moving to wing) and with how many top 9/middle 6 type guys we have (like the three wingers I mentioned). Not a lot of high-end skill at wing but it's sufficient to have a deep, two-way group of forwards. That said I do think getting as high-end a winger as possible by trading up from 21 is probably as good an idea as drafting a defenseman.

Honestly I think playing the world championships was a good thing for him, I know its pointless saying this but it really helped his stock (I know I know he's already a shoe in to be picked #2) , it really was the best thing for him.

Yeah it was perfect timing really.

He is a born leader with a tremendous desire to succeed and leads by example. He has an uncanny ability to change the complexion of a game at a moment’s notice with or without the puck. Possesses a heavy, accurate shot with a quick release, and is adept at getting it through screens and clogged shooting lanes. Does not need backswing to generate velocity, and the deceptiveness of his off-wing wrist shot is reminiscent of Mark Messier. He is an excellent skater with breakaway speed and NHL-caliber leg drive. Eichel can also cover a lot of ground in little time. Tremendous playmaker with superior vision, Eichel finds the open man, even with his back turned while drawing two or three defenders towards him.

It's going to suck playing the Sabres.

Yep. It's crazy to think that there's a prospect even better than him in Connor Mcdavid. Hockey is going to be crazy in the next decade with all these fine young players coming up through the ranks.

I won't say who is better until they both play in the same league for a few years.
