Was expecting more after all the fanboys were boasting about how he could do 25 pull ups and close grip bench 250 lbs. Looks like when proper form is enforced he's not that much stronger than his peers, I mean even the midget Mitch Marner did almost as many bench press reps.

If your intention was to make it seem as if you didn't know what you were talking about, mission accomplished.

I have friends close to the BU hockey program and there are whispers Peter Chiarelli is going to shock people by selecting Jack #1 over McDavid.

Chia was seen at many BU games last season and he is known to be fond of NCAA players.

What! I mean I really don't there is a major difference between them but there is no way the Oilers FO would let him do that.

0.01% chance of that happening.

It's not his call. Katz would nix that immediately.

Seriously though, 0 chance that happens. I think Eichel is every bit as good as McDavid, but you can't pass on a prospect that has been ranked #1 by scouts for an entire year. Not going to happen.

Ignore him, I'm pretty sure it's intentional. Literally makes absurd comments all the time about Eichel and when a logical argument forms, he's nowhere to be found.:laugh::laugh:

I would put that figure at closer to 35%. Eichel's play in the Worlds and now the combine can not be ignored.

It definitely can't be ignored. You see those performances, notice how impressive it is and how much you'd like to have that player on your team.

Then you go pick McDavid.

Let's see what the scouts say after the combine.

"Due to Jack Eichel's elite physical strength and incredible test results, we have decided that Connor McDavid, the player who has been touted to go 1st overall for nearly half a decade, is now ranked #2 and not #1" :sarcasm:

Eichel would be perfect for the Oilers. The big, right handed shot, power centre to go against the other Western power centers.

But no, they are not passing on McDavid. Too much buzz and hype to have the next great Canadian player coming to Edmonton.

...or that scouts couldn't predict these results for Eichel either. This was expected.

Fitness tests are about finding serious red flags, like a guy not being able to do pull-ups, maybe it exposes a guy has a shoulder injury which could be a big deal for a mid-range prospect (not as big a deal for an elite prospect, but at least you know you will have to invest some extra time with a surgery). I'm not seeing any for either guy in these tests. The interviews are probably most important now since both guys did as expected in their fitness tests.

He did also mention his performance at worlds against pros, not jr. players as a reason for Eichel to break into the #1 spot.

I don't think it will happen, but not because Eichel isn't as good as McDavid. I think it has a lot to do with scouts not wanting to put themselves out there for ridicule.

What should happen is that Buffalo takes Marner at 2nd. That would be best for everyone.

Even if you think Eichel will be better or its the same or whatever... McDavid the brand is something you can't pass on no matter what. He's a license to print money. Canada would riot.

Scouts have to use their head and think of how McDavid would have done in the WHC situation. Probably would have done fine. Also can look at situations where they played in the same league/tournament, like the WJC for more direct comparisons.

Indeed. That's why is literally impossible for any other outcome. Chiarelli would not be allowed to pick Eichel, even if he considered him the better player.
