Eichel's OK-not-great 10 game performance against teams like Belarus, Switzerland, and Denmark really pushed him? Give me a break sabres fans. That's a joke

Bennett couldn't do a pull-up and I guarantee he's the best forward, maybe best player from that draft. Ask any credible hockey source they'll tell you the combine's good for interviews and seeing that they're not in terrible shape.

Impressive that Eichel tested well but if you think it means that boosts his draft status, thats pretty laughable.

35%, 0%. You don't waste first overall on second best

So you think the user "Fenway" is "Sabres fans"? Give your head a check. Why would you mention Denmark, Switzerland, and Belarus but not Russia? Seems pretty odd. Guaranteeing Bennett is the best forward from the draft is nutty at this point, definitely as nutty as people acting like Eichel has passed McDavid, which I really hardly see anyone doing despite you arguing with the wind as if they are.

Sheesh you can just sense the venom and hostility with this one

Exactly. "Few outside of Sabres fans"? I think you need to go back and read what was written about Eichel's Worlds performance.

DraberlyakMcHallkins is a bitter dude, and I can't imagine why. You team has like 5 #1 overalls. Count your lucky stars and be humble.

Just let the guy get his anger out. When your franchise has been that bad for that long you get defensive. McDavid will be amazing, Eichel will be amazing, what seems to be the problem?

This.

And this is what's driving him and a few other insane.

The weird part is the majority of Pro-Eichel posters are saying McDavid is better. I, included, think McDavid is better than Jack. But the part SOME posters are angry with from pro-Eichel posters, is that we're just saying it's closer than they think, and most if not all media members, scouts, and other hockey resources are saying they are close and agree with the idea Jack is close to McDavid.

I have friends close to the BU hockey program and there are whispers Peter Chiarelli is going to shock people by selecting Jack #1 over McDavid.

Chia was seen at many BU games last season and he is known to be fond of NCAA players.

Is this any more credible than the guy on Reddit with "close ties" to BU that said Eichel was flunking university and was dumb as a stump?

Chia was GM of Boston. Of course he'd go to many local games. There is zero chance Edmonton picks Eichel. Edmonton has all but said they are picking McDavid on draft day.

Matt Grzelcyk is also Bruins property and plays for BU. Why in god's name would Chiarelli scout Eichel? He knew the Bruins weren't ever going to be in a position to draft him, and he certainly wasn't planning on getting fired in the offseason so he could then go to Edmonton and pick him with a lottery pick.

During the press conference for McLellan's hiring he basically said they're drafting McDavid. Mentioned him by name and asked Crosby for advice for McDavid's the adjustment to the NHL at the worlds. There's no way they're picking Eichel #1.

As an Oil fan, I agree that the gap is very minimal. I maintained throughout the year that Eichel would actually be a better fit for the Oil based on size/strength and playing style, especially in a division with a lot of big C's in Getzlaf, Kesler, Thornton, Carter, Kopitar, Hanzal, Monahan, etc.

I have no doubt we are taking McDavid, but I would be just as happy if we were getting Eichel. Eichel gets the edge in size, strength and shot. McDavid gets the edge in skating (though Eichel is fantastic in his own right), creativity, and ability to make any and all plays at top speed. I realize the last 2 aren't really a measurable attribute, but they really define why McDavid is considered the top prospect this year.

Edit: I finally figured out who Eichel looks like - the dude who played Bill S. Preston on Bill and Teds

God, Eichel and McDavid are both now at that level where the threads on HFBoards are just filled with a bunch of crap. I honestly wish you could mass-ignore everybody in this stupid argument in one shot

Eichel threads have been pretty ridiculous all season. Now that McDavid and Eichel are firmly associated with the two organizations everyone's taken the most shots at the past couple seasons it's reaching a whole new level.

You know you can ignore a thread right?

He will be an absolute monster. I will seriously enjoy watching him. Really will be the next huge thing in the east.

That said, 7P in 10GP at the WHC isn't something to call home about. 3 were against Belarus and Switzerland, the other 4P in 8GP were against mostly guys who play in 2nd/3rd tier leagues. It's not THAT impressive. You don't expect any more from an 18YO but not like he was lights out against NHLers, he wasn't. Few outside of sabres fans are finding it extremely impressive, but that seems obvious

Jack Eichel's 7P in 10GP is most WHC points by an amateur in the history of the tournament.

It's THAT impressive.

Jonathan Towes in 2007 was also an armature (University of N. Dakota) and scored 7 pts (2 goals 5 assists) in 9 games. Canada won gold. Of course all we hear from the pseudo experts around here is, Towes is way overrated. Funny how that works!

Jack is a hell of a player.

All hail McJesus :yo:

Team USA needs fewer amateur armatures and more professional ones, imo. :P

If by amateur you mean undrafted, then maybe.

Gaudreau had like 11 points last year.

Technically he played an NHL game before that. Meaningless in the scheme of things, but this might have been relayed to the poster as a technical record (which would be tied with Toews if even true).

Eberle had 4P in 4GP at 19, never having played a game. Toews had 7 in 9.

It's not that impressive

Considering the IIHF's history of amateur vs professional, I'd imagine the record for most points by an amateur in a single tournament belongs to a Soviet player in the 60s. Before that it would have belonged to a Canadian.

This.

I fail to see why more than several franchises cannot come out as winners this draft class. As a Sabres fan, I'm more than content landing Jack Eichel. McDavid would have been nice as well.
