Reminds me so much of Getzlaf less physical but faster...and American....I think i'm going to have a new favorite non-duck player soon.

Pretty unreal finish by Jones too.

Look out Team Canada it might be a real competition soon with the likes of Eichel, Matthews, Jones, Hanifin, and Werenski on Team USA in a few years.

We have a ways to go to get to that level, but the recent strides made by USA Hockey are encouraging.

Fact of the matter is we have no equivalent of guys like Giroux, Tavares, Toews, let alone a Crosby. Same thing on the back end, we have some young promising defensemen but no one on the level of a Keith, Subban, Weber. The score in the Olympics wasn't really representative of how dominant Canada was in terms of possession.

Guys like Eichel and Matthews are a step in the right direction though. I haven't been this excited about a US center prospect in recent memory, let alone two.

And fortunately for us, it's somewhat of a numbers game. We might never have the same collective passion for the game as Canada, but we're starting to see talent crop up in non-traditional markets. Not just Matthews, but guys like Jones, Etem, Gildon, Demko, Grimaldi, Gostisbehere, Zucker, Rychel, Nieto off the top of my head also hail from California, Texas, Florida.

These states have large populations and if teams like the Stars or Panthers become contenders at some point, we're likely to see dividends in these regions ten and twenty years down the road.

This draft and next years are filled with top talent. Guys like Eichel,Hanifin,Werenski,Matthews,Brown and Tkachuk are super promising.

Well for every super talent the U.S. produces, Canada has 2-3 more.

Eichel looks like he's going to be one of the best players in the NHL sooner rather than later though.

Haha I know it's just hopeful thinking, that's why I said might be a real competition and not might be a new best team. Can't help but be excited for how much better the USA-Canada games will be when Team USA isn't half full of grinders though.

Then their non-existent 'B' team can throttle our non-existent 'B' team all they want.

Jack Eichel on if he'll play pro next season 'It's going to be my decision at the end of the day. I think my heart will tell me what to do'

If his heart tells him to return to a league he's already the by far best player in at 17/18 he's going to need a transplant.

I imagine HF Sabres would go into a full meltdown.

Hanafin is a possibility but I seriously doubt Eichel passes on being a teenaged millionaire. If he really doesn't want to play for the Sabres he should at least show up and try it out before making a decision. Murray would get a massive return for him anyways.

Where do you get that he doesn't want to play for the Sabres?

I find it hard to believe Eichel will go back to college but if he does, then its not because of Buffalo in particular. He would wait to become a UFA after 2 years like Justin Shultz did.

Then he could go anywhere he wanted. Not just to get away from the Sabres.

There's just no way this kid isn't playing in the NHL this year. No one is going to be able to advise him he isn't ready with a straight face. The way he uses his body to shield the puck, that speed, vision...he's as ready as any player I've seen. He's playing his first tournament full of pro players and he's got 6 points in 7 games and has screened the goalie on a couple goals that he didn't pick up a point on. Defensively he's been better than advertised too. Nothing about his game isn't ready for the next level...as evidenced by his performance against players from the next level.

Complete waste of time for him to go back to BU next year. Take the money and run. You never know what can happen in life.

Two years would only be the end of his junior season, so that's not long enough to become a UFA. Players of Eichel's caliber do not go to college for four years. He's guaranteed to make big money from the day he turns pro (ELC money + bonus triggers + endorsements). Every year he delays the start of his career is a lot of money he's losing out on. The guys who stay in college for four years do so because they are trying to develop into NHL-ready players.

Don't get me wrong I wish we won the lottery and got McDavid, but I have no doubt that Eichel is going to be a special player as well. You can just see these guys are on a different level from your typical draft prospects.

So happy we finished 30th.
