just because he fractured his hand he might not drop in the draft.

I agree but it doesn't help. On the positive side, he was having a terrific season and, if anything, putting more distance between him and Eichel.

Unless he has damaged his hand in a BIG way (effecting his ability to play going forward) he goes first overall because no GM/Team wants to be known for passing on McDavid.

@OilersNow: "Hopefully he's healthy in a couple of weeks but we'll find out more at 5:00pm ET from the medical people." Bassin on McDavid.

Sounds somewhat encouraging.

I'll err on the side of optimisism that even if it is 6 weeks healing time that takes hime to Christmas Eve, hopefully at least getting on the ice a couple times before then. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't usually recover time of a injury like this 4-6 weeks.

Sorry was posted. But yes, I suppose best case is it's similar to a Zuccarrello type injury, where it was 2 weeks when he injured it in Sochi though I think his was non displaced. Obviously it could also be similar to the cases of Giordano and Braun last season where they were out 5 weeks after surgery in both cases from what I see.

Barring it being more serious then anticipated I think chances are really high he's back by mid december in the worst case.

November 11 has been bad to Canada's national team for two straight years. Steven Stamkos broke his leg a year to the day of McDavid's injury. Tough irony.

Don't know why he was fighting in the 1st place. Yes always good to stick up for your team but as the top guy fighting is 1 thing you shouldn't do. Hopefully he won't be out to long because the guy's a great talent and deserves to go #1 overall.

Heart and compassion is the reason he's the best prospect since Crosby. Sometimes emotions get the best of 17 year old kids in a sport like hockey. Live and learn. It's too bad about the injury though.

Like you said, live and learn. If he had to do something stupid, let's just hope it is minor. And, like I said, we've all been there / done that.

This is why we have enforcers. Period. Stop watering down the game, and give everyone a clear-cut role, either as a fighter or a point-getter. That's all there is to it.

Dear hockey, this is what happens when you try to flush out enforcers and get fighting out of the game. The star players get targeted more and left to fight for themselves. You will probably see more injuries from no enforcers than you will with them policing. Enforcers and fighting need to stay, or teach the stars how to fight... Which won't work. No team wants their star sitting for 5 mins.

This is just a mind-boggling lack of comprehension of the entire situation. Did you even watch the video? Do you even know who McDavid fought? Did you even see how he got hurt? Jesus. Nothing that happened at any point would have changed if "enforcers" were more prevalent. What a ludicrous way to use this incident to prop up an agenda.

I agree, enforcers had nothing to so with the situation. It was isolated incident in the heat of the moment against a guy who is 5'8" and had 0 penalty minutes this year. I doubt McDavid would have engaged him if he was a 6'3" scrapper.

Can I assume you meant the Ice Dogs? I go as often as I can and tried to get tickets for Friday night's game. There were only singles left and I would not be able to sit with my lady-friend so I passed.

Bought tickets for Saturday's game, still tons of good seats left

Jay McKee said he's seeing a specialist this evening now and they'll have the results late tonight. Let's be honest here, they know already and they're just not letting anyone know , all bs while they go on countless radio shows and television interviews reiterating the same news since morning.

Its more than that with McDavid...for those who've had the pleasure of seeing him then you know what I am talking about...he has that special sense that you are born with...something that cannot be taught nor developed. All the generational players have had it...a fractured hand will in no way derail his express ticket to the number one pick and then starring in the NHL as early as next October.
