Sweden has missed key players at WJC last 5 years, so has Canada.

But Burakovsky is swedens best player while Canada will probably have Mcdavid anyway.

USA has always had their best players, thats why they're so successful.

If Canada had all of it's players available, McDavid would not be the best player on the team.

They would hand the medals on Christmas day, there would be no point in playing in this tournament lol. This 95',96', and one 97' could have been one of the strongest teams Canada ever assembled, it's that strong.

Sounds a lot like what people were saying prior to Ufa.

To those that were saying that was quite humerous, the 93' and 94's were one of the weakest group of players Canada has produced in a long time. They were no near near the level of players that belong in this age group. This is a 19 year old's tournament for the most part and that group was just too weak, they had to depend on two underagers almost to get things done and even then Mackinnon was a 13th forward. Yet with the right coaching they could have still won that tournament.

Oh please, yes he would.

There are a couple of ways of looking at that,

Was Crosby the most skilled player on the 2005 team? A 1987 born player playing as a double underager with the 1985 group?

He probably was, but wasn't the key guy on that team nor was he given the number 1 center role with expectations to carry that team to victory..

But, yet McDavid is a double- underager and if all of Canada's players were to become available, McDavid would be in the same secondary role as Sid was in 2005.

Since 98.98% of the people around these parts seem to agree that McDavid is not at Sid's level and if Sid wasn't the guy in 2005, then no way HC makes him the go to guy in 2015 if Mackinnon, Drouin, Lazar, Horvat + others were on the team.

Errr No. Sorry a 17 year old McDavid would not do better in this tourny then a 19 year old Mackinnon....I mean he just wouldn't.

you would be correct.

But, you never know with the morons at HC, if Horvat along with Mackinnon were available, and Horvat was made the number 1 spot and Nate put on the wing. That idiotic decision wouldn't surprise me... that's straight out of the Hockey Canada playbook. Call it the HC playbook for dummies and Steve Spott.

Honestly its probably more like 50/50 now given what McDavid has done to start the season, but I agree with everything else in the post.

McDavid would get more points in the NHL this year then Mackinnon if he was permitted to play. Stop kidding yourselves. Mackinnon's IQ doesn't belong in the same sphere of McJesus's. It's almost as if your comparing to Einstein lol.

What secondary role did Crosby have in grand forks, he was on the first line, first powerplay most of the time, getting prime minutes each game, why wouldn't it be any different for McDavid if everyone was available.

He wasn't given 1st line center. He was moved to the wing on a line with Bergeron and Perry and wasn't counted on to lead the team. A fact that if every other 19 year old player were available Hockey Canada would revert back to it's default position and move McDavid down the line up or out of position b/c "it's tournament for 19 year old players" is HC's religious dogma. it's their mantra and they'll die defending it.

If he shouldn't be fighting than stop saying that enforcers don't belong in hockey.

This is a prime example of why fighting will never be completely eliminated from the game. You have arguably the most talented offensive prospect in a generation, playing a fast paced, hard hitting game, where emotions always run high. Tempers flare, and away you go. It's in our DNA. It has been since we started to walk upright. Lemieux fought, Crosby fought, even Gretzky fought. Sure, it's a tough break if he's not around to stroke the Canadian ego at Christmastime. But, he's got bigger fish to fry (and cheques to cash) in the NHL. Take your time, Connor. Your ticket's already punched. (pun intended)

"Claude Julien said McDavid would have been praised for fighting had he not been hurt"

This. This right here is bang on.

Im not saying Mackinnon is the better player, Im saying he would have a better tournament, there is a big difference. As a 19 year old with a year and a half in the NHL compared to McDavid as a 17 year old. 100% Mackinnon would have a better tournament.

You could say the same thing for Crosby. Probably would be 2nd line centre which really wouldn't be a reflection of anything.

Lot of cry babies on here about this kid hurting his hand. That's a joke. He's a hockey player, not a figure skater. He'll be fine.

The fact is, there are guys on his team that are (or should be) hoping he's gone for a few months. Spotlight is already on the team and will remain there without him. Perfect opportunity for someone on that squad to step up.

Its all relative folks. ;)

Yes, it was walking upright that caused the homo genus to be violent.

There was no reason for McDavid to fight. It was very selfish of him to do so, even if he didn't injured. He's taking himself off the ice for 5+ minutes.

Fighting is losing its place in hockey and for good reason. It's needless and dangerous. Too many enforcers are ending up with mental health issues later in life as a direct result of repeated blunt force trauma to the head. And for what? Energy? Momentum? Can't wait until this useless aspect of hockey is removed for good.

Yet you don't get fighting in any of the European leagues, NCAA, when NHL players play at the Olympics, and very rarely in the playoffs. For something that you claim is so natural, the players manage to avoid it a lot.

And 100% if Drouin was playing he would do better than both.

No one will say Drouin is a better player in the NHL than Mackinnon, but in a junior tournamnet, 100% Drouin dominates, could put up Schenn-like numbers.

Point is World Juniors isnt the pros. Dougie Hamilton was terrible at the 2013 tournament and 2 months later was suiting up for the Bruins
