I've never seen him play, only caught some recaps on TSN and whatever else.

How is he looking this year? points are about the same as last year. Does he look tired at all? I imagine he played a lot of hockey over the past year with his international contributions. Is he getting shadowed a lot?

Even Tavares had a bad year in the OHL that changed most peoples perception of the kid and allowed his #1 draft status to be questioned.

So you don't remember Tavavers hype before CHL or his play in the CHL or his play in the NHL? Or I just couldn't see how bad Tavares is maybe?

A guy name the next Tavares ... such a disapointement!!

Going from the best prospect since Crosby, borderline generational talent to just under Tavares level in a time span of 6 months is pretty darn funny to me.

I don't quite get the hype. The few times I've seen him play he didn't stand out much. I'm sure he will be more dominant once he matures, but I don't think the Tavares comparisons are fair, and comparing him to Crosby is laughable.

Someone hasn't watched him play..

I've seen every game he's played in Guelph, which I know is a small sample size but I'm only going off what I've seen first hand. He's had a couple of solid games, other games he didn't stand out much. He was pretty much invisible every other shift in the Storm's home opener this year.

Coming from someone who got to see Tavares regularly throughout his OHL days, Mcdavid shouldn't be mentioned in the same breathe yet, but we'll see.

This is a serious question.

What stands out the most about his talent set? Is it his skating/shot? defense? all-around ability? hockey IQ?

He's very well rounded offensively, and his size at his age is a huge plus. He could potentially be Ovechkin's draft size by the time he's eligible (maybe bigger). It's hard to knock any aspect of his offensive game, good vision and high IQ, he's really solid in the dirty areas around the net. I'd say the weakest part of his game right now is his shot. I don't follow junior much outside of the games I see live, so I'm sure some will have much more in depth reports than I.

Hands and hockey sense. He makes plays that superstars make. Also his skating, he's great on his edges and combined with terrific stickhandling can make some pretty amazing plays sometimes.

I agree that I don't know if he'll be as good as Crosby though. Best since Crosby? Yeah, maybe.

Have you seen him play for Team Canada? If not, you should try and do so. 14 points in 7 games including back to back hat tricks in semis/gold medal game in the u18.

Guelph probably just has his number.

Mcdavid didn't have "back to back" hat tricks in the semis and gold medal game at u18. In fact those were his two weakest games.

Could have sworn he did. Was actually the final game of round robin vs Sweden and the Quarters vs the Czechs.

Whatever, he still had an amazing tournament, especially considering his age.

To say he is not in the Tavares level is absurd.

"BETTER THAN CROSBY."

That's the glaring headline of the new Sportsnet magazine, referring to McDavid. Obviously part of it is to sell the thing, but The hype is on, and I am really quite interested to see if McDavids next couple of seasons justify it.

I dont know if we will see another Crosby for a while. McDavid might be excellent, but its going to be hard to beat Crosby.

 Its a joke how much they are trying to hype him up. I could see him being a Tavares level player but not Crosby level.

He was barely over Point Per Game as a rookie in juniors last season. Sid had nearly a Goal Per Game in his rookie season in Juniors
