I think we should give it 20-30 games before making any sort of judgement on McDavid. However I do think that for him to be considered a Tavares-level prospect, let alone Crosby, he absolutely needs to light it up this season. Crosby, as a 16 year old 6 months older than McDavid (last year), lead the entire CHL in scoring. Tavares got 134 points in his 16 year old season. McDavid goes into this season 6 months older than Crosby when he started that season.
Now I understand that points aren't everything, and that Erie is a bad team, and the OHL is lower scoring, and whatnot. But I definitely think McDavid needs to have at the very least a 100 point season this year to justify the hype.
The consensus for pretty much the entire last year has been that he is in between Tavares and Crosby as a prospect. I've seen more than a few people say he is closer to Crosby than Tavares. And I think this is the season he needs to prove that he's worth that praise.
