As these prospects get to their draft years - they are picked apart. Shane Wright was torn to shreds last year fair or not.
Yeah we started to see doubts that McDavid would even go 1st overall throughout his draft year too.

Just what happens.

McDavid actually had more doubt entering the year, and in most seasons a first-year draft eligible who won the Hobey Baker as a freshman probably goes 1OA.

You’re not wrong, but there were a ton of people arguing why Eichel should go 1st and a lot of people thinking McDavid was just a really fast player.

That’s proven to be a silly suggestion.

I noticed that too disinterested without the puck too. Lazy stick checks and lack of engagement needs to be worked overall still probably best prospect since mcdavid
Playing like that is more dangerous at the WJR's, of course - he needs to quit himself of that habit by December

I remember the opening Mckenzie poll was either 8-2 or 7-3 in McDavid's favor. By mid-season I believe it went 10-0. There's always cases made for the number 2. Only year I don't really remember that applying was Dahlin since their wasn't a premium C at the top of the draft to really challenge him, and to a lesser extent Lafreniere whose draft season ended in a weird fashion (Covid shutdown).

With this draft year, there’s a good hockey argument to be made for Michkov. I highly doubt it’d be 10-0 on hockey ability. Maybe not 5-5, but I could see like 7-3 or 6-4.

But we all know the war and then Michkov’s contract make it a certainty that Michkov won’t go first, so it’s not even a debate this season, although based only on hockey it would be close.

Some weird Canadian nationalistic thing I bet. They have been pretty short on high end forward talent since 2015, so Bedard is the next big hope. Hopefully he meets the expectations.

Oh look, there's typical HF analysis - about as deep as a puddle of spit. Good job! keep working at it though, there might be a career for you in the game somewhere.

The late teen drafts were short on high end talent - really short. LOTS since 2020. We're hoping Bedard is at a level above "high end".

I agree, all the Bedard stuff is over the top. I'm ROOTING for Bedard and it's even too much for me.

It doesn't really matter that he's going first overall.

Everyone with a Hockey brain knows he will be judged in comparison to Michkov. Neither has separated themselves from each other and both are future legends of the game.

Both are the next in line and will be fun to see for the next 15 years. A much lesser version of Crosby vs Ovechkin perhaps. Since McDavid has no equal it will be fine to have that rivalry.

If they live up to the hype they can potentially be Crosby/OV level players. It's unlikely for any prospect though. The rivalry itself will never reach those heights, I think that's the best rivalry in NHL history.

It would be interesting to see if he can match McDavid's points production.

One thing is for sure, I predict he finishes the season with a goal/game+.
He is that good.

He needs 400+ shots on goal to achieve that
with his s%

He is so far pretty much par with his s% what last season
Lets see if he can do that. good luck for him

I think DeBrincat is still the last player in the CHL
to achieve that, 1.00 goals per game season,
full season.

16-17 DeBrincat scored 65 in 63 games, in the OHL
in his 18 year old season

13 goals in the play-offs
another 2 in the mem-cup

all together 80 goals and 175 points.

If he keeps his career 15.9% sh% he'd need 6.2 shots per game to score a goal per game.

But he was crazy cold to start last year - he's got 43 goals in his last 42 WHL games shooting at 18.8%, which is probably closer to what we should expect.

I think he'll average north of 6 shots per game and north of 18% shooting percentage which would give >1.08 goals per game. Especially with Suzdalev joining the Pats.
