Nemec, Wright and Jiricek did it well. The question also arose for Slafkovsky.

If it goes wrong, that's what will happen or would be better to happen.
Nemec and Jiricek are D, there was absolutely 0 surprise either of them were in the AHL and wouldn't be surprising to see either of them in the AHL again this season.

You really wanna compare Wright and Fantilli?

Fantillis comparison just won the Calder...

And Fantilli id argue is in a tier above him seeing how he put up as many points in his freshman season as Matty did his entire two years at the same school, playing in the same system a year apart.

Fantilli struggled at the WJC. AHL remains a possibility. Beniers waited another year too.

For me, that would be a better thing.

Babcock as coach and being rushed into the nhl...yeah this is looking Pool party 2.0
Babcock for all his faults did fine initially with the 2 teenage phenoms I can remember him coaching (Matthews and Marner). Both developed into among the best at their positions. Not saying that will happen with Fantilli. But, if anything, it's likely going to be harder for Jiricek's development under Babs than Fantilli, who if he's frustrated with can play on the wing with less responsibility, young defenders won't get the same level of leeway.

My memory is that those young guys developed really well under Babcock. I'm not saying it was because of Babs but he sure didn't ruin them. Really those Leafs teams turned it around in a hurry which is remarkable considering how young the scorers were and how skimpy the D was.

But I recall there was some frustration that Babs was still limiting Matthews' minutes after a few seasons? What year was that in? Was it serving why purpose?

The AHL is still a big step over College hockey, he still has some pro habits he needs to develop so I dont think its out of the realm of possibilities. But he does work and compete so Babcock may just think its best he works with him directly. If he does go to the AHL that doesnt mean the bust word has to be thrown around like we all know it would, in fact teams should be quicker to use that option

I think Fantilli might have a big adjustment period in learning how to use his teammates, making simpler plays, and cutting down on the hero puck. But when you're that good and you're in the AHL and the players around you aren't that good then it might be harder to make that adjustment. Like I think he could romp in the AHL without really learning much - not that he won't learn things, but he won't have to learn too much to succeed at that level. AHL is messy hockey and Fantilli thrives in that.

He essentially ran two PP units for equal minutes, which drove down guys' numbers (Marner and Matthews never played significant minutes togeather until year 3, and that was PP only). It wasn't until Tavares arrived that we had a clear PP1 and everyone involved with that got a big numbers boost (Rielly's career year came that season). Plus there was the situation where he made Marner list who he didn't think worked the hardest in private then outed it to the team completely throwing Marner under the bus. Luckily, Kadri and Bozak (the two players at the bottom of the list) defended Marner and disliked Babs for the position he put a 19-year-old kid in. If Bozak and Kadri handled it differently, it could have gotten toxic in the locker room pretty fast, so kudos to them for siding with Mitch and not Babs on that.

Babcock is a guy whose motivation techniques generally revolved around hating him and proving him wrong. It wore thin with the team overall rather than one specific incident.

Ducks love their Swedes. Worked out for both teams, especially since Fantilli wanted to go to CBJ

I think this is so over exaggerated. Is he happy to be in Columbus? Yes I am sure, but the quote is from an interview with the CBJ media team - so just a touch of bias there.

My guess is he would have answered “the ducks” or the “Blackhawks” if asked by their respect media team.

CBJ are doing a masters class in hyping Fantilli though. Some smart people running that PR machine.

The interview done over a month ago and as far as I know not done by the Columbus media?

I don’t have Twitter so I can’t confirm now since I can’t even open tweets, but I think that interview was done by NHL representatives, not Columbus. And I’m not saying he would have refused to play for us, just that he found excitement to play for CBJ, and we got our guy in Carlsson. It’s a win-win for all involved.

It was said to CBJ media team in their interview with him. This has been reported a few times.
Are we referring to the same thing?

This video is from May, and is attributed to NHL media, not CBJ media.
Back in May, the University of Michigan forward told the NHL the team he wanted to go to most was the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It was also reiterated by by CLB beat reporter Brian hedger on the Cannon Fodder podcast that this came From a one on one interview with CBJ social media team.

Wonder if this was May before the lotto, when cbus had the greatest odds of picking 2 and ducks 1

Most likely. Ultimately, none of that really matters- CLB got a great prospect, who clearly is happy ti be there (that is not to say he would not have been happy elsewhere).

What I think is absolutely untrue is that the Ducks passed on Fantilli, even in part, because he didn’t want to be there. There is no evidence of that and in multiple interviews Fantilli said he hoped to go as high in the draft as possible and spoke excitedly about the potential of going #2 to the ducks.

Both are accurate.

Fantilli told the NHL reps in May (the ones doing the video you saw) that he would prefer to play in Columbus. He also told the CBJ staffers themselves in their meetings that he wanted to be there.

And don't trust Brian Hedger. He claimed Jarmo had to be talked out of drafting Smith over Fantilli. Which is not true. He has some sources, but he is far from reliable.

I don’t think that’s accurate, but don’t care to argue this point. Why would you discredit Hedger’s report? You’re sources better than his?

It makes a ton of sense that they were considering smith over Fantilli (and/or Carlsson). There was so much smoke there, definitely seemed they wanted the workd, and fanbase, to be prepped that they may go “off the board” and take smith. Same noise was happening with Carlsson and the ducks… and it was obviously accurate.

All of the build up the media was doing prepping CBJ to take Smith was ALL under the assumption that Anaheim was taking Fantilli. Fantilli at 3 was an absolute no brainer.
