Intel, Microsoft, booming population, variety of great suburbs, booming housing market, really great schools, growing night life scene.

Yeah, definitely flyover country lmao
An 18 year old hockey player isn't going to care about the suburbs, the schools or Intel and Microsoft.

He will by the time he’s signing his second contract.

The point was, the area is blossoming tremendously.

And he already said predraft he wanted to be in Columbus. Point is moot.

Dont think you can really go wrong with either Fantilli or Carlsson.

Grats to the Blue Jackets fan on a well deserved blue chip prospect. He should be a good one.

Downtown is booming, the only city in the top 10 in growth in the Northern US.

Why are people ripping on Columbus? There is a video of him from May saying he wants to go there lol. Seems now they have a few guys that want to be there good for them. Johnny G, Werenski and Fantilli. Should start to keep and attract others as well.

What exactly do you think he isn’t going to be able to do?

Columbus is a big city. Plenty of stuff to do. He could go to the zoo. He could go to a museum. He could go to a variety of sporting events. He can see movies. He can see plays. He can see comedy. He can go to the science center. He can go kayaking. He can go fishing. He can go to OSU’s campus and get into as much fun or trouble as he wants. He can go shopping. He can go to big concerts, small concerts and all in between. Etc

Dude went to college in Michigan and grew up in Ontario. He will be fine in Columbus. Stop sounding so dumb. Columbus is an awesome city, you guys should actually visit instead of parroting dumbasses who never have.

I think Fantilli is an excellent fit for CBJ, but count me as a person who doubts that Uni towns that are out of phase with the states in which they're located are likely to maintain the growth they'd seen in the last decade. Things imo have changed.

(I have family there, have been there a bunch, etc. It's a city in the news quite a bit these days, and while other cities steal the big headlines more often, for its size Columbus is a flash point.)

Kind of outrageous to get him at 3rd overall, much like Arizona getting Cooley 3rd overall.

Big win for CLB. That retool starting to look tasty.

He grew up in a suburb to a city that is about the same size as Chicagoland (Toronto), saying just Ontario is a bit of an understatement, it's not like he's from rural Ontario. I believe he also went to St. Mike's which is actually within the old city limits. Not that trashing cities or regions is gonna get anywhere productive anytime soon.

I'm sure Columbus will be fun for a 19 to 25 year old. It's a college city.

I think they meant that southern Ontario is a lot like Ohio and Michigan. Climatologically, geologically, and culturally (more generally in this case, since Columbus is hardly Toronto, but the larger Great Lakes regional culture that crosses the borders, yes), they're basically all three the same region and were at one point all under the same glaciers. Compare that to SoCal or Philadelphia, for example.

I'd say culturally they are quite different, atleast Toronto to most of the midwest (I go to Ohio fairly often, but not Columbus). Michigan and Ohio for sure are though have a ton in common. Toronto probably has more in common culturally with other financial centers such as NYC, Chicago, and Bay Area. But, weather-wise he's going to absolutely be used to it, and I'm sure the college atmosphere he'll love. And, to be honest, everyone who grows up in a financial center may not exactly want to live there later on.

Either way, he seems like he wanted to be there, which is a positive for you guys, and I'm expecting him to sign his ELC pretty quickly.

Columbus signed their Stanley Cup with this pick, 100%
He is an improved version of Jonathan Toews.

Winner with a capital W (just like Jonathan Toews)

at 18 he is already

Mens world champion
World juniors champion
Hobey Baker winner
NCAA champion
NCAA all star
Clark Cup play-offs mvp
Clark Cup Champion
USHL all-star

Bedard sells you tickets, media coverage
Fantilli wins you championships.
When did Fantilli win an NCAA championship?

It's also quite ironic that you call Fantilli a winner because of his WJC gold medal, that he won riding on Bedard's coattails.

C'mon George. New name means fresh start, don't go down this path again.

Remember the rumor that Dougie Hamilton was traded because he liked going to museums instead of hanging out with his team?
Just say he can party with OSU kids instead of talking like you're trying to recruit a 35 year old software engineer who's married with two kids and a dog lol.

Hey man, Fantilli and Dumais are going to displace McDavid and Draisaitl as the top duo in the NHL.

Every single Columbus pick/trade/UFA signing always has the same stupid ass discussion about Columbus as a city and 90% of the people making comments about it have never actually been there. I don't think any other franchise has to deal with that bullshit except maybe Buffalo and Winnipeg. It's so stupid and completely irrelevant.

Fantilli wanted to be a Blue Jacket. Gaudreau wanted to be a Flyer, but ultimately CHOSE the Blue Jackets. Werenski wanted to stay here. Bobrovsky and Nash signed multiple contracts here. Even Seth Jones signed long term here.

Put a sock in it and move on. Just because Panarin wanted to be in New York and Jeff Carter didn't want to be here it ruins the entire outlook for the city? Gtfo with that.

With that, the full court press to get Fanta to jump to the NHL is on. I think he's ready. But I don't blame him if he goes back. A chance to win a national championship (maybe as the captain? Idk) with your brother is probably pretty enticing. Either way, Jackets' pool looks solid and the NHL roster is on its way too.

I hope he's not worried about partying with college kids or at nightclubs and instead is focused on playing hockey...

I've watched a lot of Fantilli highlights in anticipation of the Ducks picking him. The jackets are getting a true grit and sandpaper type of player with a ton of skill. He's cut from the same cloth as Ryan Kesler and Matt Tkachuk.

Hopefully he and Carlsson are elite players for a long time.

Dude has been living in Plainfield, New Hampshire which is in the middle of nowhere and Geneva, Illinois for 2 years and Ann Arbor Michigan

Columbus won’t phase him.

Tough in the streets in Anaheim this week.

What does he have to gain by going back?

Eichel scored 56 points as a rookie in a lower scoring league and Fantilli is entering into much better situation than Eichel
