I'm thinking was Georgiev's last game.

GMs usually give teams until Thanksgiving to show who they are. The coach doesn't believe in him, I think it's now officially over.
Quite possibly. It’s sad though, I think Georgiev should have had at least another season in the AHL. Maybe two. The Rangers thought they could develop him at the NHL level. But a goalie needs confidence and they basically put him in an impossible situation. He’s pretty crushed right now and needs a fresh start.

It’s about a week or so later than I expected but I knew this was coming from Brooks about time. This nonsense with this completely unlikable, weird, as in bodies in the basement weird, and most importantly, BAD goalie needs to be gone. He is quite simply the worst goaltender in the league and the numbers back that up.

This analysis is based mostly on the eye test, and I am sleep-deprived and several bourbons deep, but this was a f***ing weird game.

The usage in this game was so baffling that I had to check to TOI stats afterward. Through 2 periods, it felt like Tinordi and Nemeth were always on the ice. They were used very sparingly in the 3rd and the TOI shows that we leaned on the top 4 heavily, so I’ll chalk that up to their shifts being particularly eventful and feeling like an eternity.

Similarly, the 4th line seemed to always be on the ice. It felt like the deployment was Strome, Rooney, Zibanejad, Chytil. That’s not a good look when Chytil is creating chance after chance. But the TOI shows that the forwards were pretty even with Panarin and Kakko topping out at 18 minutes.

This odd game worked out how it should have in the end. If this was a sim and we simulated this game over and over, then 9 times out of 10, this game is a blowout after 2 and Chytil has 4 points.

He was pulled after 2 periods in a tie game. If the game was getting out of hand, then you can say it was a shake up. If it was after a goal, you could say it wasn’t his night. This was a showing of no confidence by his coach.

Indeed, the Blueshirts have not had a goaltender post a save percentage so inferior since Steve Valiquette’s .852 in six games in 2009-10.

This is why Vally is trying really hard to be nice when he trashes Georgiev and why it means so much that he's getting on him.

Is it just me or is Trouba's foot speed noticeably better this season than the past two? I feel like he's much faster all around and particularly his starts have more jump.
Definitely better foot speed and not hesitant to contribute in the offensive zone. Kreider and Trouba have been the most pleasant surprises!

nonetheless no point whatsoever talking him down.

This is the kinda coach I want to see behind the bench. I was so sick of AV and Quinn’s lack of fire and accountability. Haven’t seen this since Torts, but Torts was overboard with this stuff. GG seems to be a perfect balance between fair and firm. We’ve curb stomped 3 bad teams and held our own against an elite team over the past 4 games. Teams finally adjusting to Gallant and he seems to have gotten past the introductions like you said.

If he can get Laf going now, look out. Igor kept us afloat during the transition phase, this team should be the playoff caliber one we expected going forward.
Agree. And glad you say the Rangers dominated today. Score was close but at least from what I saw, the rangers were in control.

After watching it again. Mika sat there doing nothing when it was 3v2 on the boards. Somehow Kreider still won it but it's a bad look.

Gallant probably sees what we see. His effort is not there. His skating is not there.

Panarin watched video and corrected it. Chytil watched video and corrected it. I'm assuming Gallant showed them. I'm assuming Gallant showed Zibs too and he has yet to correct it.
Not to destroy your narrative here or anything, but Gallant yelled at Mike because Mike was yelling at the refs. Gallant considered it unnecessary when NYR won anyway.

Before I start my postgame analysis, want to clear up any talk of brendan smith as 7d: Brett howden scored a highlight reel goal on him this season. Sorry, but no.

Okay, so the fact that we stopped talking about panarin so much is kind of nuts considering how he was literally one of the 3 stars every game last year. We kind of replaced that talk with fox.

On fox, the guy is generational. I started being a hardcore rangers fan right before the ottawa series. (It's been a rough couple years). I loved watching other dman because the amazing ones always do crazy plays. Fox doesn't just have that ability. He does small plays that look simple, but really are just otherworldly. There was a shift where he was about to exit the zone and a sabres player was coming towards him. He waits for him to come straight to him, bringing him out of position, and then makes a simple pass to lindgren to clear the zone and mantain possession. Unlike makar or hughes, he has the same defensive iq as mcavoy- a true defensive god in his own right. Players have to gameplan around him and it puts pressure on the other players because he's just a defenseman. It's crazy, I don't know how scouts saw him and then continued to see him in college and didn't think he'd be at least a number one defenseman. I think the makar hype killed the media love for him tbh.

On panarin. A lot of risky passes and a lot of clean ones. He was active and makes mistakes but the fact that he is over a ppg while not being in his supermode status goes to show you his ability.

On mika. He tries to do things. I think he's not bad in his own end, but he just isn't shooting much this season for some reason. Also, his shooting percentage is just low compared to his average. He probably should have at least 6 or 7 goals right now instead of 4. I think just adding a playmaker to that line takes that responsibility off his mind and lets him be more active in shooting positions.

Good shit kreids. Keep proving them wrong. You never know what a player can do in a season.

I thought the 3rd was our most dynamic. They swarmed the ice and could have had at least 4 goals scored. The second was very good too and kakko scored a hell of a goal, but very risky in their plays. The good news is they come back to make up for it, so then it's like nothing bad came out of it. The 4th was okay. Had some looks, but goodrow looked very nice on there. Also, I think reaves definetely shows his age, but he is becoming a very vocal leader who hypes up our guys and he still plays a smart game. Nothing flashy, but just keeps the play going.

Tinordi is an echl defenseman. What kind of giveaway was that?

Georgiev lost his momentum and is slowly devolving into the undrafted goalie he originally was. I think its due to a loss of confidence and in addition to that, teams figured him out. His glove is wonky and he moves out of position a lot where playing a technical sound game would just prevent a goal and rebound attempts. He'll make a save and come back to a bad position only to be scored on, because he overextends.

On shesty, nice shutout lol.

The team plays more confident when they don't fear the goalie not coming up with a big save. Players dont trust georgiev and he honestly seems like a pariah on the team.

Finally, we are now statistically in a spot where 90% of the teams in the past who have made it to this point of the season and have the same amount of points, make the playoffs. The correct move is to not waste the capspace we have this year and make a move for a rw for that top line. Also, weve been playing very well ever since cbj. The underlying stats back that up too. We just need to keep that consistency going. That 6 on 5 goal we had shows our future and its bright. Lets go Rangers!

They haven’t uploaded the full highlight and commentary yet.

For all who were waiting for the MSG Highlights and Commentary video I don’t think it will be available.
On the one above posted earlier there is a jump in the tape where all of Valliquette’s speech (paraphrasing) on Georgiev needs to go to Hartford to work on his game down there because the team can’t afford to risk the 2 points every time he starts has been omitted.

Only five votes for Miller? He was tremendous again tonight.
He has really broken out the last couple of weeks. I really think he’s something of a PMD now. Not a pure PMD but kind of a hybrid puck mover and defensive stopper with a nice shot to boot. He is not physical and I don’t think that’s really ever going to happen. But he has a ton to offer.

I’m not sure that you want Mika selling out there. He was staying in position to receive the outlet and he had a plan. That’s a play where it either works with Kreider and Hunt digging out the puck or it goes to overtime. If Mika is digging and gets the puck he just draws another guy over and it’s a scrum. I think jawing with the official was the problem. Not what he did after. Also I thought Mika was pretty engaged in general from what i saw.
