I mentioned this in the Rosters thread, but I would love a trade for Holtby. And would MAF be of interest? Gallant did have him in Vegas...
If we get holtby that rules out is getting gourde. There’s not enough hair mousse to go around. And the constant Walk Off Challenges would become a distraction.

After watching it again. Mika sat there doing nothing when it was 3v2 on the boards. Somehow Kreider still won it but it's a bad look.

Gallant probably sees what we see. His effort is not there. His skating is not there.

Panarin watched video and corrected it. Chytil watched video and corrected it. I'm assuming Gallant showed them. I'm assuming Gallant showed Zibs too and he has yet to correct it.

Not commenting on his effort in general, but you want to be out numbered in the corner in the attacking zone and you never want to be three in one corner. The simple reason for it is that, winning the puck in the corner does no good, if you don’t have anything to do with it after you win it.

I could be wrong but I think you can hear, ever so slightly, Lindgren call out "Mika" before Mika gets the puck. Otherwise it would make no sense for Mika to know that he was there. He never takes a peak to his left.
Yes but he spelled it M-E-E-K-U-H so the buffalos wouldn’t catch on. Genius.

I’m not sure that you want Mika selling out there. He was staying in position to receive the outlet and he had a plan. That’s a play where it either works with Kreider and Hunt digging out the puck or it goes to overtime. If Mika is digging and gets the puck he just draws another guy over and it’s a scrum. I think jawing with the official was the problem. Not what he did after. Also I thought Mika was pretty engaged in general from what i saw.

Exactly.

This is the kinda coach I want to see behind the bench. I was so sick of AV and Quinn’s lack of fire and accountability. Haven’t seen this since Torts, but Torts was overboard with this stuff. GG seems to be a perfect balance between fair and firm. We’ve curb stomped 3 bad teams and held our own against an elite team over the past 4 games. Teams finally adjusting to Gallant and he seems to have gotten past the introductions like you said.

At least with Turk, he is 100% keeping things in the room. I bet a few things are said behind close doors that don’t come to us. Turk is 100% Baghdad Bob in interviews.

One big issue I had with Torts is that he always hangs out his players and he always make excuses, every interview always. But if you aren’t listening carefully, you won’t notice it. Because he will lead with, ‘We never make excuses’ … ‘but we sucked because the players didn’t work hard enough and our goalie sucks’ or ‘what we say in the room stays in the room … but I had a few things to say to him and so did many of his teammates’.

I mean honestly, as a coach you are responsible for the team playing as good as it can. If your team sucks, and the coach goes out and say that ‘we sucked because we didn’t work hard enough’ or blames it on the goalie or a few players — how is that not an excuse lol? Unless there is reason to believe that the coach didn’t tell the players to work hard, the coach is directly saying that his team didn’t win because his didn’t do what the coach said.

I think he kinda needs to slow it down just a tad at that last moment when he's about to shoot his load on plays. That goes for both scoring and passing. He's flubbing the pass when there is a golden opportunity to feed someone open.
Kakko’s goal today was a good example of being ready with a plan in tight. Kakko could have one timed it but he dragged it a bit and the goalie was absolutely flummoxed. It was beautiful. Chytil panics in close. Like Gauthier. BUT the fact that those guys can even get into such cherry spots is hugely encouraging. Kreider has a bit of that stiffness in close. It’s not the end of the world.

Rangers played another great third period. Young guys were buzzing. Fun win overall.

I’m late to the party on this probably, but Gallant didn’t do them any favors tonight. Playing Geo, playing Tinordi over Lundkvist and consistently putting the third pair out on the ice after we scored all costed us.

The decision making from a guy who’s literal full time job is to think about this stuff is just unacceptable. I have been totally fine with Gallant this year, but he was a noticeable detriment tonight.
If these guys are on the team they need to play a bit and Buffalo is the best opportunity. It is what it is. And GG adjusted beautifully pulling AG. Honestly, aside from the one doofus move, I thought Tinordi was fine.

Seemed to me he was yelling to him, cause it was loud, rather than at him.
Yeah. I don’t think it was as bad as it’s being portrayed at all. Looked like Gallant was a bit ticked off and Mika got the message. They didn’t go back and forth. Wouldn’t have even been noticeable had the broadcast not cut over to show the coach after the win, which they always do. It’s not like there was a big brouhaha.

I believe this has to be the end of Georgiev. Look at this body language on the 3rd and 4th goal. Throwing his hand up like he's a victim of sabotage or circumstances. Vally said he stopped fighting against the screens and Gallant saw a goalie that had given up and stopped battling in a 4-4 game and you can't have that on a team that's trying to win. Anything goes wrong in the game and he's completely mentally shot. One wicked slapper by Poolparty and the walls cave in. One bad turnover by Tinordi and the walls cave in. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th goal seem like lasers that picked a spot well but it was mostly Georgiev not reading the play and backing into his net like Vally said. If he couldn't manage to keep it together against the Sabres, there's no point of keeping him.

Yeah, and its like 100% "nerves"/lack of confidence. Kind of like Lundkvist, we have had kids come in that has been so strong mentally for such a long time.

How do you handle that? There are no easy ways. Sometimes it just takes a game. Sometimes it starts an ugly downward spiral.

We need another defenseman, Tinordi and Nils are not the guy. I can't blame Gallant here, he needs another option.
I really dislike Georgiev. This guy should have been traded over a year ago. Right now, he’s just taking up cap space.
I’d rather have kinkaid or Huska.
As far as the game goes, it’s one of those nights where even a bad team plays the rangers like it’s their Stanley cup.
I’m happy we showed Fortitude and Balls to come back and win.
Despite what some think, this is a good hockey team, and they are going to get better. We have some guys not firing on all cylinders yet and they are still finding ways to win.
Kakko looks like someone took a piano off his back, he’s got an extra jump in his step.
LaF had a good chance, but couldn’t convert. Kreider and Trouba are savages this season. Panarin and Fox look to be getting back to where they were so good last season, and our 4th line is a bunch of lunch pail workers.
They are a stabilizing force on the team. It’s really nice to have a 4th line that’s not a liability. Guys you trust to play an honest hard 10-12 min that forecheck, hit, and score once and a while.
With Blais out for the year, I still think we might add a guy like Donskoi or Jarnkrok if Gauthier cools off.
Chytil played solid, Miller played solid, our top 4 D all had good games.
Tinordi is not good.

Guys who may be proving me wrong if the last couple weeks are any indication... and I couldn;t be happier:

Miller... confidence level is up and it's impacting his whole game
Chytil... last night in particular his best game ever
Kreider... feels like finally the whole beast has arrived. (But we've been here before...)

Guys I'm just really happily surprised about right now:
Trouba... earning every penny every night
Kakko... smelling breakout season

Guys I'm just annoyed with:
Zibanejad
Lafreniere

Guys who need a change of scenery:
Lundqvist out, Jones in... for now anyway
Tinordi... just no
Georgiev... this is just not going to work out in NY, ever again

Lindgren said in his postgame interview that he was calling for the puck loudly.

I don’t know that 19 points in 18 games is Panarin’s expected pace.

edit: oops, quoted wrong post, whatever.

Yeah, I like Georgiev and still think his NHL career can be salvaged, but it's not going to happen here. The sooner the divorce happens, the better for both parties. Drury, figure it out. And let's make it clear, Kinkaid is not the answer.

It’s about a week or so later than I expected but I knew this was coming from Brooks about time. This nonsense with this completely unlikable, weird, as in bodies in the basement weird, and most importantly, BAD goalie needs to be gone. He is quite simply the worst goaltender in the league and the numbers back that up.

He’s been lurking the boards for the better part of 2 weeks before he wrote this one...
At least this article is smothered in truth

They haven’t uploaded the full highlight and commentary yet.

LOL...and I thought for a minute it was Mika's reckless jump into the group that ticked off Gallant . He could have hurt Lindgren there ....most exuberance he has showed this season .

He needs to go somewhere where he gets a 60-4o split or better. He’s not the type of goalie that’s going to sit for a few games and be sharp when he’s trusted to come in and stop the bleeding.
He was at his best here when he was playing more. The thing is there’s not many teams eager to trade for him and give him that many games with how he’s played in the last 2 ish seasons.
His best bet is going to a bottom feeder like ARI and trying to get hot and get his value up. Similar to what kuemper did.
He’s not going to win a lot of games there, but at least he won’t have the pressure of playing from behind or giving up a goal and having the wheels fall off.
Hopefully there he’d get enough playing time to try and resurrect his career.
Presently, I don’t even think he brings back a 2nd rd pick with his contract and the way he’s played

It's about time somebody yelled at Mika. Laffing boy should be the next target. Nothing wrong with that at all. This team is clicking. Take advantage of your hand coach and single out the concerns as they pop up. I'm all for it. The opportunity to get down on guys won't be as great during a downturn in results.

I know people have been getting on Chytil for his lack of finishing, but that's about the only thing holding him back right now. He's been all over the ice the last few games and could have easily had 3-4 points if his confidence level was higher. Like others said, we need to be patient with him.
