Not much rumor so far this year at the TDL.

Only 11 days left.
I think a few big names may move. Rantanen could go again. Marchand with the Bruins good chance traded. Oilers be good fit. Jones to Florida. If Tkachuk is out for season.

IF the canes actually wanted to trade Rantanen and we could get an extension I'd offer a lot. He and Demidov would give us 2 legit first line wingers..
Big names like Rantanen usually want to sign in tax free sunny states.

Pay him! I don't care. All our other players have reasonable deals anyway. So we're good.
Demidov and Hutson will need new deals sooner than later. Rantanen is already past his peak, mind you. COL fans were saying how he’s less dynamic than he was two years ago.

I’m all for quickly building the Habs but (even if Rantanen even wants to join) adding veterans to max contracts should be done with great caution. I think the rule of thumb for signing UFAs to max contracts should be that they show no signs of decline right up until their new contract. If there’s any change in their performance I wouldn’t make such a commitment.

I’d prefer to acquire Crosby somehow or even gun for McJesus as a FA (imagine that!).

Rantanen refused the terms in Colorado
Carolina willing to offer what he wants but rejects it , even tho Carolina is a good team

Why would he go in Montreal. Dude sounds like LITRer in 3 years

At his cap hit, I wouldn't want to sign him for 7 years. There are only like 4 players 33 and older in the NHL that are top 40 in scoring right, and one is freak of nature Crosby.

Rantenen's 7 ( or 8) year deal will take him from age 29 through 35 (or 36). Not sure that deal will look good after the first 4 years, as in the last 3 (or 4) years when he'll be 33, 34, 35, (and 36).

I would just throw 100m at Rantanen and if he accepts great and if not thats fine too at least we tried a player of Rantanen caliber doesnt come by often and us being at the end of our rebuild is pretty perfect since we get a ton of cap space back with gallagher dvo price and them off the books.
Well, he's not accepting that here.

Carolina has already offered him just over 100 mill and he's rejected it.

Canes have offered him over 12.5 (which is 100 mill exactly over 8 years), but beloe 14.

Gotta love how nobody has a flipping clue as to what is happening on the Montreal trade front.
Sure they throw out a handful of grain periodically to keep the local media chickens clucking but their real intentions are usually a closely guarded secret.

Keep it up.

Ahh, The Insiders on TSN know everything that goes on, in all markets. They are The Insiders, Chris Johnstone, Darren Dreger, Pierre Lebrun. LOL

Evans + Armia (50%) retained + ??

for Nemec + Bastian or Tatar (cap dump)

What would be the + needed?? Calgary's 1st?
In any trade scenario with the Devils I would be asking that the potential 2nd round pick we obtained in the Allen trade be converted into a certain 2nd rounder.

he looks like he wants to sign where he wants and take it easy. He looks like a guy that doesnt want to win anymore neither care. If he refused the 12m of Colorado 8 years , hes just looking for money and his favorite place. If Carolina is not enough then lil pup wants to play in Cali or Tampa/Florida
Recall his present deal with Avs took a while to get completed, and he missed a portion of training camp. I don’t think he wants to take it easy, he simply wants to get paid & Canes don’t traditionally hand out large bonuses as part of contracts

Also need to keep in mind Rantanen did not reject the Canes offer, he simply asked for more time to think it over, which is his right

Style wise I see Rantanen as a player with high probability of aging well. He doesn’t really rely on speed and although he is big body, he excels more in protecting the puck than actual crash-and-bang physicality, so there are no obvious red lights that would make him very vulnerable to aging.

Of course, since he isn’t especially fast, loss of speed could be devastating by rendering him way too slow to contribute, but getting in to space to score, nice shot and big ass to keep defenders at bay are not lost with age.

Rantanen asked for more time did not reject it + Canes don’t traditionally structure contracts w large bonus payouts and they seem to like deferred payment structure - I would want to be paid NOW in todays $$
