Adams blinked in the stare down. He just admitted he made a mistake. The STH letter now rings even hollower. However, I thinks also indicates KA is here indefinitely. No way Terry greenlights this, Greenway and Zucker if KA is on the way out.

As for players, meh looks like shuffling deck chairs. Both have warts and maybe they find something in new surroundings

I don't know much about Norris;

He seems to be used in a more 2 way role which is good.

But...swapping for a lower upside, less productive, oft injured player on a worse contract seems....bad?

Time will tell I guess.

This has HIGH potential to blow up in our face.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I get it. If they're smart (which, of course, they're not, so who tf knows what they'll do), they'll stick Norris between Tage and Tuch. That's a decent first line you can give heavy minutes to in all situations. Then, you get a better checking line center for the 4th line so you can actually use it as a line that eats tough matchups and tilts the ice for you. If you do those 2 things, you can give the kids in your middle-6 much lighter minutes, both in terms of volume and competition level, so they can get back to developing normally. They'll even have a couple bid bodied veteran wingers there to help bring them along.

On the minus side, I just get big "wrong kid died" vibes from this. Would they not take Stutzle's countryman Peterka instead? Or local boy Quinn? You could always not re-sign Zucker to open up the room, and let Cozens fill his role as "middle 6 gritty winger with some skill" instead. I ask because I really think Cozens is going to be a much better player than both of those guys a year from now. I think he's going to blow up with a new team that lets him move to wing and develop into the power forward he was always meant to become.

So, my initial reaction is that I'm torn.

He is today but we have nothing to lose to put him with Power and give him the blueprint. I would love a bonafide top 4 RHD vet for Power but there are not a ton out there. You gotta try and hope you get a Forsling that you got for cheap and ended up working well. I have to imagine the front office targeted JBD. Maybe they have more deals but it's worth the shot imo
Give him the blueprint? What are you talking about? This coaching staff hasn’t helped Power, Sammy or anyone else become an effective top 4 dman. Why would you think they could do it with this kid.

I don't hate it?

Still would have preferred EP40 as the oft injured overpaid center upgrade that we shipped Cozens out for.

Adams sure does love throwing away 2nds though. jeesh

Norris has 12 even strength points to Cozens 25
He's also significantly better on the PP. Sabres have very few luxuries, one of them is they can afford to sacrifice some 5v5 production for someone who is great on special teams. Which Norris is.

This was targeted.

Is Bernand-Docker any better than Gilbert?

Stat-ish wise, yeah. But that's in fewer minutes than Bryson and style wise he's kind of quiet. Last year he was a shot-blocking machine in limited time, not as much this year. *shrug* Gilbert is the strong and more physically engaged player, Bernard-Docker seems to be the smarter at playing the rest of the game but it saws off at this point.

Don’t love the return but despise Cozens as a player, so whatever. He probably goes to Ottawa and plays the way he does with team Canada.

Yeah. I think Norris is a 3C on a good roster but Adams will see him as our top 6 fix.

A player type we needed but with serious injury concerns.

Don't love it, don't hate it.

I certainly don't love that KA gave up a 2nd in this deal, but it's not something I'm going to rage about.

Norris plays a stouter game and is better defensively.....and has a better shot than Cozens. He's also much better in the dot and on the PP. Norris, right now, is a better player than Cozens.

HOWEVER:

Norris is kind of made of glass and I'm worried his shoulder is held together with spit and frayed duct tape. Cozens certainly has the higher ceiling.

I've asked KA to do something. This is something. Maybe it'll shake up the room enough, maybe there will be more work needed. It's a step.....probably in the right direction. If Norris stays healthy, I think I'll like it.

I don't know, maybe Norris magically stays healthy the next few seasons.

Would be cool to have a good 2nd line centre at $8M.

If he brings Ottawa's coaching staff and they kick Appert to Oswego or wherever he would go... then I can see the point.

Question is -- will we actually play Norris on PP1. Because PP2, while oftentimes outperforming PP1, doesn't get much TOI at all.

I couldnt take watching Cozens play. I have never seen a player so big be so useless. The guy could barely skate and was dumber than rocks.

Getting anything was a positive. Can't imagine with his contract, there were many options willing to take him.
