My wish was that they did:

1. Something
2. That that something wasn't very obviously bad.

I like it. It's a gamble but Cozens has sucked for quite some time now and he's making 7 million. Norris looks to be a comparably flawed player that might take another step with a change in scenery.

This trade feels like the best Adams can do.

Which is to say, pretty underwhelming.

They traded a problem for an injury problem, and a depth d + a 2nd for a dice roll young rd who's a pending rfa.

Norris was thought by many to have negative value because of his contract, injury history and poor 5 on 5 play. JBD went through waivers recently. Pretty hard to understand why a 2nd had to be thrown in. If you take the second out does Ottawa say no to this?

We’ve all witnessed Cozens play the past two seasons. We all wish he was the player he was before that but he isn’t.

With having that knowledge, unfortunately this is probably the best Cozens could land. An equally expensive player that is talented but a gamble. No team was coughing up a solid player in return.

Yep, if the goal was to get Cozens off the team and get an actual roster player in return, this seems about right.

It was never going to be a slam dunk. If Norris can stay healthy this is a win, if not it won’t be.

A Sab
Yeah, speaking of the "want to be here" thing, one would think Gilbert would be that guy. But he's a 7/8 at this point and in his time in the lineup, it's been kinda poor as one would expect.

As for the pick... they have so many prospects still choking their dev cycle, it's kind of a meh for me. I would've prefered something later but not feeling too negative about it.
A Sabres’ 2nd round pick typically carries near value to a late 1st round pick. Value wise, this wasn’t a good trade…Norris’ injury history is concerning.

Not trying to start something because I want Adams gone as well but what type of return were you expecting for Cozens given his play, salary and term?
Someone with more durability than Samuelsson for starters.

To a team outside the division for seconds.

For a less expensive contract for thirds.

Finally, for a player who could help shift the culture, I.e., has grit and some playoff experience.

I don’t think it’s a big ask.

JBD is a depth dman. He does not belong with Power.
He is today but we have nothing to lose to put him with Power and give him the blueprint. I would love a bonafide top 4 RHD vet for Power but there are not a ton out there. You gotta try and hope you get a Forsling that you got for cheap and ended up working well. I have to imagine the front office targeted JBD. Maybe they have more deals but it's worth the shot imo

The second + Gilbert is definitely more than I thought the "plus" would be, but I also care very little about a 2nd round pick, so it doesn't change my opinion of the trade much.

Actually, if we are concerned about Cozens going to a Division rival we shouldn’t be trading him anywhere.

And what I said still stands. Cozens play, term and salary was not going to net what you seemed to be wanting in return. Evidence being that it has been reported multiple teams reached out to the Sabres regarding Cozens.

Cozens play is why we saw the return we received. If Norris stays healthy we very well could be the winners in this trade. Big ask I know. If not? So what. Cozens isn’t the type of player, at least if he continues to play the way he has played here the past 2 seasons, that will be missed. He has brought a lot of frustration.

I don’t care about the 2nd in a vacuum, I care about what it might have been used for otherwise while this trade seems a little imbalanced

(Though given Kevyn I suppose it probably wouldn’t have been moved for anything of consequence anyway)

We traded one of our only physical & gritty D men as a throw in?!

Ugh.

Don't like the trade but Cozens needed to go. I wish him luck in Ottawa. I've always rooted for the guy. Hopefully Norris can stay healthy but he's got what? 3 shoulder surgeries in 4 years. & We give away a 2nd in a deep draft which (where we'll bound to pick) is pretty much a late first.

Not a fan at the moment.
