Looking forward to Cozens regaining his form and hitting 65+ points next year for Ottawa. All these trades seem to back fire against this organization. All I can really do now is sit back and laugh.

If he brings Ottawa's coaching staff and they kick Appert to Oswego or wherever he would go... then I can see the point.
Coaching is definitely a flaw I won't disagree on that. But moving Peterka off the PP in favor of Norris will do a lot of good too. Peterka is a terrible special teams player.

Question is -- will we actually play Norris on PP1. Because PP2, while oftentimes outperforming PP1, doesn't get much TOI at all.
Yes.

I appreciate Adams dealing in-division. I loathe how scared GMs can be of a trade not working in their favor in-division.

I appreciate him targeting a C who actually can (from my limited viewing) handle the role defensively.

I dont appreciate the position he put Cozens in throughout his young career, and can see Cozens finding a role on a line with veteran players.

I'm not sure Ottawa is the best spot for him since theyre also pretty poor defensively, or atleast they were last season when I actually paid attention to them.

The deal makes me a bit uncomfortable but that was bound to happen. We weren't going to get a sure-fire top-6 player for Cozens. It was either going to be a heavy futures package or a change of scenery type of move. Im fine with the deal.

Watching Norris highlights, man that guy loves to shoot low. Seems like every goal is scored with the puck never leaving the ice. Kinda interesting.

This team is screaming for an elite playmaking winger. Would have loved to be in on teravainen whenever he left CAR. My expectations are low

I hated Cozens the player, he was a good guy but man there are few Sabres in history I liked watching less. He never had it between the ears and in his hands to be a good NHL player. From that lens I am happy he is gone.

Man, Norris misses a lot of hockey
His highlight was getting a game misconduct in the Winter Classic.

With all the internet hype about how much interest there was in Cozens I find this return underwhelming. A good quality Center but with extensive medical (shoulder) history.

Not really impressed. This org f***ed Dylan Cozens over and I hope he does well elsewhere.

Norris is also faster than Cozens, which might surprise some. He had a 55 points season in 66 games. Hopefully he stays healthy for us.

Tells me that Vancouver isn't/wasn't really all that much interested as Cozens as a piece for an EP40 deal. I vastly prefer Norris, medicals and all, to someone like Kasper or Rasmussen from Detroit (each were rumored at a point to be the main return piece).

I also bet that many teams sniffing around DC wanted to give up futures to get him, something KA isn't/wasn't interested in

What the f*** are you talking about? This dude has gotten every opportunity to succeed the last 2 years. He got plenty of time on PP1 for 2 YEARS before finally being so f***ing abysmal at it that he got moved down.

2nd line center CONSTANTLY, he's sunk everybody around him. His defense is awful, when asked if he would improve that next after 22-23 he said his end goal was to tuck 40 this year.

I was just coming to type out about how it looked like we would've otherwise had some even more underwhelming return from Detroit or Nashville earlier in the year.

Yeah? Like how Colorado just trade Mittelstadt, 2nd and a prospect for Charlie Coyle? That move backfired.

Come on folks. This guy is not Eichel he's not Reinhart he's not O'Reilly. Those were all good to great players while they were here that NOBODY wanted to move.

I'll go on record and say I hate this trade.

I don't like using the word hate, but even if we're on the lower end of the deal, most of the time I can get on board with some form of justification. I can recall hating five trades:
  1. Foligno to MIN
  2. Peca to NYI
  3. RoR to STL
  4. Campbell to CHI SJS
  5. Mitts trade to COL
This one makes six.

He was never allowed to fully develop. Shitty coaching, overblown hype, and no support to show him what it takes to win.

Just like way too many other young players in this org.

1. Sure I guess, I'd like Foligno back.
2. Held out.
3. Demanded a trade, nobody wanted ROR out except Terry.
4. Brian Campbell was traded to the Sharks, not the Blackhawks. He was a pending UFA and wouldn't re-sign.
5. Mittelstadt just got sent out 5 minutes ago in less than a year with a 2nd round pick to get Charlie Coyle.

Hasek to DET is worse than any of these trades.

I'll say I absolutely do not hope he does well elsewhere. I'm already having no trouble picturing him as another in the long line of mouth-breathing unlikeable Sens.

Can't wait to see which Sabre gets to beat him up.

Every opportunity? He was surrounded by vets and provided mentoring? His deployment allowed him to grow and find his game? He was surrounded by good coaching? He was allowed to play on the wing instead of thrown into the deep end as a top 6 center? He was provided a stable environment to fully develop?

He was given every opportunity to fail, not succeed, just like the other young players on the team.

My feelings about the trades at the time, not a hindsight grading of how we did...

Hasek to DET is worse than any of these trades.

That fits under the "justification" category. At the time, even though the return was horrific, I believed we got as far as we could with that team and management burned the bridge w/ Hasek, so my thought at the time was "fine Dom, go win a cup, you deserve it".

I have to laugh at the way I feel bad for players that draw the short straw and end up being included in a trade to Buffalo. I'm sure there's trepidation in players going into any trade deadline that they might get moved, but out of all the players in the league, the odds of getting traded to Buffalo is pretty low yet I imagine it's the scariest possible outcome to most of them lol

The second + Gilbert is definitely more than I thought the "plus" would be, but I also care very little about a 2nd round pick, so it doesn't change my opinion of the trade much.

It's an odd throw in. The trade seemed equal without it. One of those things like Botterill's trade of a 6th round pick for a better teams 6th round pick of the following year. Makes you scratch your head and wonder "but why?" Ultimately inconsequential except for further evidence that the GM is bad at his job.
