If only this was true, like ever. For whatever reason, the Pens don't have a great track record with persuading talented UFA wingers.

Show him that empty slow next year for when Kunitz is shot into the sun.

1yr as a complimentary piece on a stacked line up for the best chance in his next 10 years to win the Cup...then take over as Kunitz's replacement and have a legit show at either Sid or Geno's wing.

Except you all keep forgetting that right up until the NCAA playoffs he fully intended on doing just that. Then Poile got pushy about him not graduating with his class, and him signing while Nash was still in playoffs. Maybe if your own GM laid off the kid, let him get through graduation (because you know, this kid is the first kid in his family to ever graduate from college, never mind Harvard, and that is a HUGE accomplishment that ANYONE would want to participate in with their family there). Maybe, just maybe, he would have signed down there as soon as he was through with his school commitments. Poile couldn't wait though. Poile screwed it up by not having a clue about this kids personal family history and how important it was for him to walk his graduation ceremony and then treating that reason like it was not an important enough reason to not come to Nash right then and there. You wanna be angry, fine, but be angry at the person who caused this, and it wasn't Vessey.

That pretty much sums it up! People hear what they want to hear. I'm glad someone sees it for what it is. Nice job!

Its the middle of the off season. What else do we have to ****post about? Is a hot dog a sandwich.?

I guess we could post a thread every time Subban makes a comment. Or ridiculous trade proposals.

I can't wait until Vesey starts off slow while getting acclimated to the NHL and half the main board posts about how he's a bust the most over rated prospect in the last decade.

This has been brought up so many times it's become stupid.

He has stated before he even talked with Buffalo that he was testing free agency. He's staying the course.

It's totally possible that he wants to talk to multiple teams to make an informed decision and is just waiting it out.

Still very much possible he signs with Buffalo.

He's not signing with Buffalo

Yes, him.

Vesey joins the team, hits his bonuses as well... you are looking at potentially $5 million in carryover bonus overages for 2017-16.

Starting with a cap hit of $58,800,000 approx, with Vesey, you would have 12 players signed. Add in your bonuses you are at $63,800,000. You given Panarin his $6 million, and you are at $70,800,00 with 13 players signed. Let's imagine the cap goes up to $75 million. You'd have $4.2 million to sign 10 players... If the cap doesn't go up, you are in a poorer position, you've got a decision...

Do you sign the guy, and hope he doesn't hit his bonuses?

Numbers and date from Cap Friendly... I appreciate that you have a number of guys on Entry Level contracts, that can fill in, but at some point, you've got to question what you do, with a stunning lack of depth.

I fail to see what any of this has to do with Vesey not making his money. A team will offer sheet him, or trade for him if Chicago can't pay him.

Won't be CHI. No $. On down turn. Panarin probably gone too.

First time that has ever been said . Panarin will be an RFA. Either he'll be resigned at 6yr/6-7m per or he'll moved out for a haul that will help the Hawks remain a very good team.

See things got a little testy last night.

Ryan Shea(Hawks prospect) sticks a leg out on Eich.
Vesey gives him the business. Then Zolniercyk challenges him.
Then later Farnham has a word.
Heh.

Yea, when there's a no hitting rule in place it's one thing to push a guy into the boards who's trying to get around you but it's another thing to stick your leg out to slow him down.

Just like Stamkos wasn't re-signing in Tampa. Nobody knows.

stamkos clearly played hardball and hoped for better contract... veseys contract is what it is.

veseys only decesion is where does he want to play? he had a choice of nashville... he had a choice of buffalo. if either of those teams were his number 1 choice he should have signed to keep everyone happy.

theres nothing to gain taking this to aug 15 then signing with those 2 teams.

stamkos always had something to potentially gain and ultimately tampa was where he wanted to be but we all guess he was hoping for more money

Why would he sign in Buffalo before talking to other teams first? Buffalo's offer will still be on the table. It's possible he wants to hear from multiple teams before making his decision.

That's a pretty convenient excuse. Vesey made a decision that he had every right to make, so not faulting him for doing that, but HE made the decision. Trying to blame someone else for HIS decision is just silly. He had every right to make it, he made it, but it was HIS decision and he needs to own everything about it. The good and the bad.

You think teams are going to pay a fair price for an asset they know Chicago can't retain? If Chitown can't re-sign him, they might accept a trade for less than fair value.

They will if that asset is desirable.

Let's say Chicago can't afford to resign Panarin.

You really think 25 or so teams would all low ball Chicago to get him cheap?

If he had come out and said he was planning to go to UFA or nothing at all, that's one thing. We would have been salty but not mad about it. Suter and Vesey publicly and privately said they were staying in Nashville, then left. No, they don't "owe" the team the courtesy of their future plans, but saying one thing and doing the opposite isn't right and is what makes them targets. Call us whiners if you want but I've never met someone who enjoys being unapologetically lied to.

You are 100% correct. there seems to be something very "Suteresque" about Vesey. I lived in Nashville for 5 years and still follow the Preds. People forget that Suter told Poile, Trotz, teammates and staff he was going to stay with the Preds. Repeatedly. Then as free agency approached, he promised to give the Preds the right to match. Suter got together for a little rubdown/strategy session with Parise and then signed with the Wild. Totally unprofessional.
Vesey seems like a bit of a punk after he told Paul Fenton, David Poile, Laviolette that he would join the Preds.
Poile would have made a move at the deadline if the kid was honest with him.
Vesey seems to be playing "footsie" with a lot of teams. If he signs with the Bruins, you can expect the Sabres and the Preds will be very happy to welcome him with extra enthusiasm.
Seriously, which team among Nashville, Buffalo and Boston has the best chance to win in the next few years?

I'd be willing to make an avatar bet with anyone on this one

You can't dismiss it as a possibility.

Him not signing with Buffalo now does not mean he wouldn't sign after the 15th after testing free agency (which he said he was doing all along).

I'm not super confident in him signing with us, but you can't dismiss it as a possibility.

Man, this is going to be a letdown when he signs in two weeks, probable with Boston or the Rangers. Then all the spilled vitriol will have nowhere to go except into the tampering thread(s) that may follow, and watching Vesey develop like any other college-graduate rookie will be like watching paint dry. Chances are he won't be a big surprise like Panarin or a big bust like Clarkson, and at best will be better than ordinary.

Big deal.

You'd think people are waiting for the Messiah.

Exactly. Talk to anyone that knows Vesey and/or inside information on this and they'll all say the same thing: Nashville has nobody to blame but themselves. They completely botched the situation and looked like *******s too for airing dirty laundry ( that was partially fabricated to boot ) like a teenage schoolgirl.

It's gonna be even funnier when this guy turns out to be a huge bust

I don't think he'll be a bust but I don't think he's gonna be as good as some people who are already slotting him into their top 6 think he will be. Wouldn't surprise me if he turned into a Bozak who's good but not great.

Consider it dismissed.

He can clearly see what teams have what holes in their lineup. He doesn't need a GM to spell it out for him. And since he went to Harvard, I'm sure he's smart enough to know that any GM trying to sign him will blow sunshine up his butt, but that if he doesn't perform, he'll be playing on the third or fourth line, regardless of what was said in an Aug 15 meeting.

Don't see that being the case. So far this guy strikes me as the type of guy to take to social media with the whole "BRO THEY PROMISED ME MINUTES EVEN THOUGH IM CRAP" along side with his agent.
