Ferland was a good get by the Hurricanes I’m the Dougie/ Hanifin trade. He’s having himself a nice season stats wise, 11g 15pts in 21 games. Plays a physical game. Under the radar. That’s the type player I’d like to see Sweeney acquire

While I would love to have Simmonds flanking Krejci I would try to deal with an equally desperate team. St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Arizona, LosVegas and even Vancouver and Edmonton all seem to be in tough spots and are probably in need of defensemen. Look at Vancouvers GA not sure who would be the most desperate for a PMD. A l0ok at the "goals against" category is somewhat telling: Vancouver has 88 GA, the Senators have 94 GA, it's too bad that their ownership is so narrow minded about trading within the division since they probably could use the most help with a young defenseman or two.

Charlie Coyle, C/RW, 26
Shoots Right
From Weymouth, MA
Played at BU, Drafted in 1st round by SJ(28th Overall) in 2010

June 24, 2011: Traded to Minnesota by San Jose with Devin Setoguchi and San Jose's 1st round pick (Zack Phillips) in 2011 NHL Draft for Brent Burns and Minnesota's 2nd round pick (later traded to Tampa Bay - later traded to Nashville - Nashville selected Pontus Aberg) in 2012 NHL Draft.

>>Stable point production. Fractured right fibula at the start of last season hampered his production. But still decent.<<

Assets:Has outstanding offensive instincts and excellent hands. Can both set up teammates and finish off plays himself. Also displays the size required to fend off defenders effectively at the highest level.
Flaws:While he can play both center and wing, his defensive game may not be quite good enough to play down the middle in the National Hockey League over time. Could also stand to use his size more.

>>I feel that if Coyle is available it will be for more than he is worth. That trade is disastrous for MN and getting a small return for 1st rounder Coyle would just compound that. Afraid we would be paying a price to acquire him based more on his draft rank than his play. If he can be acquired for some pieces not in our line-up currently, I am down for the acquisition. Would not pay any of our young forwards(Debrusk/Bjork/Donato) or D(Lauzon/Urho/Carlo/McAvoy) for him though.<<

I agree. I like the player but our main crop of young forwards to me all look like they project better than Charlie’a point production. I would trade some of the D in providence aside from Urho. Do we know if they need D?

I have zero interest in Charlie Coyle. He's another player that people seem fascinated with and I feel it's because he's from the Boston area. He's mediocre at the dot, and is a C/RW tweener because of it. He has size but doesn't use it consistently. He has 28 hits in 26 games; 1.1 Hits/Gm. He's not really a scorer. He had an anomaly 21G year back in 2015-2016, but he's basically a guy who will give you 11-15G a season. I want nothing to do with this guy.

Basically sounds like Jimmy Hayes 2.0!

Ooh, we can add another member to the Zip Code Gang!

Some posters have been mentioning Coyle for a couple years but I don’t recall ever watching him play.

I can’t stop thinking about Namestnikov, personally.

I’m not as big on Heinen as most, so I’d do him for Coyle straight up, but I wouldn’t do Bjork or Donato because of their contract status.

Heinen has been a really good possession player the last few games. I think the organization likes him more than this board.

They seem to. Certainly more than I do.

At some point, hopefully that possession might lead to a goal or two though.

To me he just doesn’t do anything particularly well. He’s a JAG, IMO.

I’m just amazed he’s been given so much leeway.

I’m not big on Coyle overall, but the B’s have a need up the middle and some extra wingers, so I’d be okay with this deal.

To me it’s trading Heinen the winger for Heinen the center or Coyle the center for Coyle the winger.

Is Charlie Coyle actually a legit NHL center? He's been under 50% his whole career; hovers around 45 FOW%. He averages around 6 faceoffs per game, but plays around 16-17 minutes a night. I see nothing really interesting about a Heinen for Coyle swap. Coyle's best season was 56 points, then 42 points. Heinen has already topped his 2nd highest point season and he did it in his rookie year.

The Bruins targeting Charlie Coyle screams Cam Neely to me. He has those magical 6-0+ 200+lbs numbers next to his name. I'm not sure he is much of a center at this point, but I don't get to watch him play much. He isn't that physical either which kind of defeats the point of targeting such a player. I thought the Heinen - Krejci - DeBrusk line looked great last night, and I think Bruce should keep that line together for a while so they can build chemistry.

As soon as the Bruins get their top 6 all figured out, then they can address their 3rd line. I'm not sure Coyle would be worth the price to get if he's playing on the 3rd line.

While face offs are important there’s more to it than that, IMO.

Plus when this team is healthy PB or DK are there to take the big ones.

From what I’ve seen he’s good defensively and is strong on the puck.

Again not a huge fan of either guy, just looking at it positionally.
