I mean the goals were marchand on a breakaway, I don't know if theres many in the league id put ahead of him on a breakaway. Another goal trouba blows a tire and the guy walks right out in front of the net. Those two I can't fault him on. Rask won them the game but Georgiev didnt lose it on us.

georgie didnt lose it, but he didnt steal a win. Rask stole the win with some incredible saves.

thats the difference. Georgie made every save he is supposed to make. He was 0-3 on hard saves.

We arent getting the amazing saves from either goalie this year as we have in years past. And our lack of scoring is being completely exposed bc of it.

We're getting a lotto ball even if Panarin sprouts a third arm.
oh he's got a third arm. that's not the issue. the issue is the guy playing next to him.
strome is not a 2c.
think some of this lack of offense would be fixed by the castaway? or maybe they can get something for him.

I know. Kakko and LaFreniere looked great. They’ve looked really good, at many points, through 11 games.

Here’s the problem though. They have 4 points combined. And I get it. LaFreniere is playing with turds, but he wasn’t earlier this year.

At some point, you have to turn this good play into production. It doesn’t mean shit, if you can’t put the puck in the net.

That’s fine and good, but there’s the things they can control and there’s the things they can’t control.

They can’t control their line mates. And in the last two games alone, that’s potentially a goal an assist for Kakko and two goals and two assists for Lafreniere.

And with this small of sample size, those differences over two games would have both players on a 30 goal, 50 point normal season pace.

I sincerely believe the best way to judge these kids is by how they look against their competition. And in that sense both have looked really good lately.

It's hard to fault Trouba on that goal because nearly everybody fell at one point in that corner. That ice should have been fixed.

i was thinking the same thing about the ice. There were more players falling for no reason tonight than at a public rink. That ice looked terrible.

They played well. But they failed, time and time again, to bury your opponent. It’s a theme this season.

So is the theme of losing in a heartbreaking fashion. Game 1 is the only one that was different.

They have lost some tough games this year but it has nothing to do with not having backbone. The effort has been there and they have been engaged most games. It has everything to do with players who we absolutely need to score not scoring and at times making stupid plays with the puck and having less the stellar goaltending especially earlier in the year. It all adds up to 4-5-3.

I get where younare coming from, but "I guess" that is where it may be a "generational thing" going on. I found that game
(and the previous Islander game) to be "very entertaining" despite the lack of goals.
If you pretended it were a soccer game......it would have been "action packed" with lots of scoring. Well, maybe we see things differently. I totally enjoyed that game. We werent embarrassed, we held our own vs a VERY experienced team, and technically we didnt lose. Or, did we?
Fun game, and we made strides...whether anyone sees it or not.

Same opponent, same type game/effort.....we win later on in the year. We WILL get better, will they?

I can appreciate a tight game like this one, and in a vacuum I would have found this game enjoyable. The problem is that it feels like every game is the same game this year. Our scorers never show up. The kids never get on the board. In a season of ups and downs and all kinds of games, one like tonight’s is a tight battle and an acceptable, if disappointing, loss. In a series of games that all feel and play out almost exactly the same, it becomes monotonous.

Imagine if we had this year's team defense and last year scoring and Shesty? Though I think Shesty is coming along.

Laf has looked more solid over the last five or six periods.

Panarin pass gets picked on a PP and that leads to a breakaway. Trouba loses his man and a Bruin scores a goal from in close. Buch makes a horrible pass that leads to another breakaway goal in OT. Some Posters: This loss is all on Georgiev.
Loss isn’t on Georgiev but he wasn’t good. Hasn’t been good all season except for the islanders game where he didn’t have to break a sweat.

Need your goalie to make saves on high danger chances. Felt like each of their best chances ended up in our net. Meanwhile we had a ton of quality chances and Rask stopped then. So just bc a chance is good and players make bad plays to lead to chances doesn’t mean the goalie can’t stop them. We need our goalies to win us games. We can’t have them just being there.

He’s an average goalie. I think people are frustrated bc he’s being treated like he’s more than his play has deserved.

Unfortunately they are right in that swing zone where they could sneak into the playoffs or be a lottery team - and that’s reflected in the record we see now. They’re missing that extra ability to turn some of the OTLs into Ws.

Right now they’re essentially a team with warning track power.

But I also think there’s a tendency to overlook some really interesting things that are taking shape.

The younger talent looks like it belongs. And even when it doesn’t get on the board, they’re getting chances and creating them too. That Rooney goal owes a lot to Kakko. But it’ll never show up in the box score.

Lafreniere created two prime scoring chances for his teammates. He did everything you could ask him to do in that situation. But it’ll never show up on a box score.

Personally, I think those things are so important because it shows me guys who are capable of doing some cool things at the NHL level. I’d take that over them having several goals each where they play like garbage but get a tip-in. To me, that’s the mirage you gotta watch out for.

Seriously, the kid could’ve posted 2+2 and I wouldn’t have felt any different about what I’m seeing. He’s getting it. You can literally see it game by game.

Kakko is also coming off a string of games that are really good. He played nearly 20 minutes tonight and was quietly part of that second goal.

We have to exert more effort, actually, to be playing the way we have. They have taken a much more conscientious approach to defense and more structure and support on the breakouts. It's not woven into their DNA yet, not muscle memory yet, but they'll get there with more games. This effort might be affecting their offense, so there is some merit to sacrificed offense. These last two games, I felt the opposition just outwaited us and outgrinded us to win. These are two highly disciplined and veteran clubs.
