That was truly the best game I've ever seen Tuukka Rask play -- senior moment included.

Zibanejad could've had another five goal night.

Kakko is a takeaway machine.

Lafreniere woke up a bit.

Strome will only attempt between the legs shots on breakaways now. Otherwise he will simply stop and refuse the breakaway if the vibe for such a move is off.

Kevin Rooney is emerging as the long-term fix at 1C.

Julien Gauthier no longer sucks ass.

Pierre McGuire loves small, smart long island ice teas.

What else did we learn tonight?

There was a game we played against Rask a few years back, I want to say in 2013-2014 that made this game look like a walk in the park. We had over 40 shots and they had probably 20 fewer, he was insane. This game he made some great saves but most of the game didn't face that much.

Ironically he tries to do a cheeky Malik-move earlier in the game. Then he gets the best chance ever to do an outrageous move and he slows down so hard that he almost travels back in time, just to force a pass.

I'd somewhat get it if we were up by a few goals and it's the end of the game and he's trying to set up a teammate for the hattrick.

Strome is dumb, like for real. Shitty hockey-IQ for a "top 6" fwd.

Can we just trade for a good 2C and demote Strome into a 3C or just dump him on another team?

Seriously I had to go back and pull that pic of strome. The picture doesn't do the dumpster fire of a play justice because he was 75% speed and slowed to a crawl. If I sent the next 5 frames like the Zapruder film he would have still been all alone.

Buch having angles on two separate occasions and pulling a Maverick "they'll fly right by" stop (which fools no one).

I actually had to check this out and compare it to some other Finnish players. 2nd in takeaways after Barkov (10 for Barkov 9 for Kakko) and takeaways per 60min he was 1st (3,43 and 2,79 for Barkov at 2nd).

I think at least the eye test says he has come a LONG way from last season when it comes to his defensive play. That probably is good for DQ as well, he can put him out there more often as he starts to trust Kakko not to be a liability in the own end.

My reasoning for this is that Buch really tries to defer to the better players around him, he shouldn't, take Zib away and force him to shoot. pdg on line 2 adds the grind to that line that Fast and Blackwell added. I also think Kakko could add some pace to the top line.

I haven't watched that many games due to the time difference... how many secs does Kakko average on our PK/game?

He should be on it. Amazing stick and he reads the game so well. He reminds me of Hossa.

Yeah that's the problem.

But let's face it: Strome isn't great on faceoffs nor is he a defensive stalwart.

I'd rather try literally every winger except for Buch and Panarin as a C over Strome.

Or just use Rooney.

Overall it was an okay-ish game. They were pretty good defensively. Georgie was fine. Good even. Trouba lost an edge and a guy was able to get completely alone in front for a goal. It happens. Battled back and got it tied. Got a point. Bad, predictable, laughable goal in OT. I feel like with a lot of Rangers games you can see the opposing goal developing like 6 seconds ahead of time. You just know when it’s coming.

Just sucks that each game at this point you’re like “maybe this is the game Z gets going” or “maybe Kakko gets a goal” or “maybe Laf gets a goal” or at least “maybe we win convincingly” and night after night it’s boring 1 goal games, mostly losses, where Rooney and DiGiuseppe are our best forwards. It’s not even the result that’s disappointing since I kind of expect a loss and don’t mind. I just want to see our stars and future stars play exciting hockey. I’d be happier to lose every game 5-3 and 6-4 at this point. I get that we’re trying to tighten up defensively and that we’re playing with a bunch of fill ins and kids. That’s why I’m fine with losing. I just wish the games weren’t dull and frustrating.

I get where younare coming from, but "I guess" that is where it may be a "generational thing" going on. I found that game
(and the previous Islander game) to be "very entertaining" despite the lack of goals.
If you pretended it were a soccer game......it would have been "action packed" with lots of scoring. Well, maybe we see things differently. I totally enjoyed that game. We werent embarrassed, we held our own vs a VERY experienced team, and technically we didnt lose. Or, did we?
Fun game, and we made strides...whether anyone sees it or not.

Same opponent, same type game/effort.....we win later on in the year. We WILL get better, will they?

Like who and how much were they asking for? I don't remember. Also, that doesn't matter right now. Quinn really doesn't have options at center.

They could’ve laid down and took the L, Bitteto got it going and they came back to get a point.

OT is a coin flip half the time. If they pull it out we are happy they played a good defensive game and got two big comeback points.

I’ll take the one. Again this team is giving up 2 goals in regulation. If the top 6 was going it’s a different story. Usually we are looking for production from the bottom 6. That will be straightened out.

Kakko continues to improve. Really liked his game tonight. He was one of if not the best forward on the ice for the Rangers tonight. Lemieux with two helpers and Rooney again. Gauthier gets on the board.

Im gonna try and stay positive here. It’s a long season.

They showed no lack of backbone tonight. They were engaged. The Bruins are just a better team that knows how to win and could win it all this year.

They played well. But they failed, time and time again, to bury your opponent. It’s a theme this season.

So is the theme of losing in a heartbreaking fashion. Game 1 is the only one that was different.
