More than likely, but they can take an X-ray,and I’m sure they already have,so why not say he has a broken leg, that’s the part that confuses me.
See if there's ligament damage?

No sense in saying he has a broken leg if he has a broken leg and ligament damage, two very different things. One would have him read for training camp, the other would be a far longer recovery. No reason to give an unrealistic expectation.

I still think it's weird we have a guy listed as day to day three days after he suffers what looks like a very bad injury . Maybe I am getting my hopes up for nothing but the way Cassidy has talked plus this delay has me dreaming he isn' t gone for sure long term.

My guess is they want to rule out some kind of knee/ankle injury especially if the injury may require surgery to repair.

Generally this kind of damage is difficult to diagnose while there is swelling. Also, even if it’s only a fracture the damage is better diagnosed after swelling subsided.

When my daughter broke her wrist the ortho wouldn’t make any long term plan or prognosis until a week had passed (the break was on the X-ray and she wore a soft cast then the did new X-rays and casted it a week later).

I understand using caution here. A break is a 4-8 week healing time. Ligament damage can be months.

Not all fractures are that clear cut.

Possible Occult Fracture

A fracture is a broken bone. Occult means hidden. An occult fracture is one that does not appear on an X-ray. A possible occult fracture is a suspected fracture that needs to be confirmed with other imaging tests.
Occult fractures can occur because of a fall or other type of sudden (acute) injury. They can also occur because of repetitive injuries or normal stresses on weak bones. Fractures caused by repetitive injuries are fatigue fractures. Those that result from normal stresses on weak bones are insufficiency fractures. Another name for these fractures is stress fractures.
Common sites for occult fractures include the hip, shin, upper arm, and the bones of the ankle, foot, wrist, and spine. Stress fractures are more common in the lower part of the body than in the upper part. They are also more common in women than in men. They often occur in athletes and military recruits.

My guess is that he has a fracture, and his fracture has got to be big enough to show up on an x-ray, despite any swelling. But they want to give complete info to the reporters (and fans) in one big chunk, so they’re waiting for the swelling to go down to check for anything in the ligament arena.

I mean, dang, if Carlo’s bone didn’t break in that awkward fall, his bones are made of adamantium...but I guess seeing can be deceiving.

BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney issued the following update on defenseman Brandon Carlo:
Brandon sustained a fracture to his left ankle and is scheduled to have the fracture repaired later this week by Dr. George Theodore of MGH. He will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs. Expected recovery time is 3-4 months.

Man, right after I posted, too lol - best wishes for Carlo. Really feel for the guy - he must have picked up a cursed tiki while on vacation. Two playoffs in a row.

It’s also rough for him because now he doesn’t get a vacation; rehab’s tough work, and the reduced mobility can be a real pain in the rear.

Blows but I bet he's happy he'll be ready for training camp - maybe it'll motivate him to play hard next year. Big test of his NHL character. He's a hell of a kid I know this fanbase, his 'mates and coaching staff is behind him and he'll make it through. Get well soon 25!

First thing I would do is change his number
