Getting an Alex Turcotte a different kind of center more a skater/edge work guy behind Mika’s power game would be a great compliment. And we can get him in that 5-7 range imo

For me kreider Zibanejad Panarin Kravstov Chytil Turcotte in your top 6 would be awesome.
Cozens too. Both he and Turcotte are thick kids that can absolutely motor. Turcotte adds more playmaking while Cozens is a better goal acorer, but both of those kids have the potential to solidify themselves as solid centers that make life hell for the opposition. It’s funny, I see a lot of Zibanejad in Cozens. Turcotte can surpass that level if he stays healthy and can translate his battle level to higher-level hockey without wearing down

This team better start losing some regulation games soon. Going thru this **** again just to try to draft top 5 next year will be a serious drag.

was told after 20 games, then 30, then after 40, that not to worry, they will start to drop in the standings. But here we are, 2/3s of the season behind us, and were outside of the bottom 10. fantastic.

I predicted 8-12 by the TDL. Then 6-12 at the end of the year. The first part still feels likely. Of course a four- or five-game losing streak drops us quickly. I just think we're not bad enough to drop into the top five, and Quinn has them playing hard.

I would maybe revise my post-TDL to 5-10 or something, but same general range. Not one of the three worst, anyway. But we'll see, again a lot can change in a week or two.

Also, these points aren't "meaningless" as I've seen many say. I know it's said in the context of "the tank," but still. We talk about building a culture and all of that, and at the same time the kids need to learn how to win games. These types of games are important in that sense. And we're getting important contributions from young guys like Chytil, Buch, ADA, Georgiev, etc., which is great. And Zibs isn't really thought of as a young guy because he's been around for years, but his continued ascendence into stardom is just as huge.

So the points don't help the tank, but they're certainly meaningful.

For once in my life I'd like the hockey gods to smile on us and let us get Hughes....that 1 2 up the middle would be something you could build on.

There’s a bunch of teams that the Rangers are clustered among. At the moment, only Ottawa, Detroit and NJ seem out of reach.

Your point about Zibanejad is spot on. And, IMO, the scary thing is he may still more growth in him.

Still applies.

They were sitting at 7th a few days ago. Things are fluid. They’re selling at the deadline. They’re going to fall

Our corsi sucks but our quality metrics are pretty decent. We've been a little lucky but we should probably only be picking 9th instead of 11th.

Unfortunately, we're just not THAT bad. I think we've done everything we can to be that bad, but we're just not.

Get back to me when Hayes and Zuccarello are gone, and Pionk is getting big minutes again because McQuaid was traded.

I just don’t think Cozens gets by the 3rd or 4th spot

Ottawa, Detroit and NJ are out of reach, but the whole Western Conference is challenging for the final wild card spot.
That's true, and at this point, Edmonton would be buying if they were winless.

Anaheim absolutely should be selling but I guess we'll see.

What the f*** happened to Colorado?

It's interesting, because we talk about some of the potentially available wingers and say things like, "Well, what would he do away from so-and-so?" If this is the real Zibs, and if he even has an extra gear, it might not be such a step down from whoever the guy was playing with to playing with Zibs. I mean he's not Matthews or anything, but if he really is a PPG center playing on a team bereft of offensive talent like ours...

I’ll say it again...coming away from this year’s first round with a haul of Turcotte, Soderstrom and Dorofeyev would more than fine by me.

He hasn't ****ed the first round up the last two seasons :dunno:
They've done great the last two years. But I'm always going to be worried that someone like a Turcotte is sitting there and they'll take a guy like Lavoie

And I'll continue to think so until the day Clark and Sather are gone.

Sometimes, I get flashbacks to 00-01 with this team.

Mostly it comes from having a dominant first line while struggling defensively. 00-01 was the year of the Dvorak-Nedved-Hlavac line. There are some obvious differences, but in some ways the feel is exactly the same.

That was the first season I watched the Rangers so it'll always be near and dear to heart.

I don’t see anyone out of the Q being a viable selection...Americans, Russians and Swedes are where I’d put my money.
